Can’t agree with you Fmm, I will always complain if I think its justified. I don’t see why I should suffer in silence when I have been given a poor plate of food. I have done this in some classy joints and on several occasions they have not only replaced my order but also that of my fellow diner(s) (even though they have no complaint) because they consider it only proper that we all eat together at the same time.

Everyone has their own views - generally, if the food that comes out is poor, it is unlikely to be much better the second time around (and having watched so many of those fly on the wall documentaries, I REALLY don't want to upset chef! )

At the risk of going off topic, my sister in law who is normal in every other way, is a great complainer and could complain for Ireland - she writes to people/companeis etc and you would be amazed at the results she gets, she says people should complain more often instead of just accepting second best etc., having seen the results of her endeavours I make her right.

Oh - I am happy to complain about other services, but just not restaurants. I go out for a meal to relax, and having an argument will simply give me worse indigestion than the substandard food would have done! If it was uncooked then I would send it back. The sort of thing that I am talking about is "fresh" prawns, for example, which are as tough and chewy as toffee - no matter how many times I could send it back, the prawns would still be the same quality.

Bottom line for me on L'Orange.....let those who still believe it is worth the effort carry on supporting the place.

I for my part have voted with my feet. There are far better restaurants available in the area.

L'Orange does not deserve a 3rd chance.

We have never had a poor meal there, and probably one of the best fish meals I have ever had was John Dory served with 2 sauces - one piquant and one creamy. Will admit that we miss Paulo, an excellent and attentive waiter, but the lovely Irina just about makes up for it.
I agree Barry- we always had excellent service with Paulo and Irina (is a sweet girl and very good as well). Jan -if that is the chef's name always comes by the table at the end of service to enquire about your meal - that would be the time to compalin -if you have one.

Last year Tricky......thought we owed it another chance.

This thread tends to demonstrate MORE strong criticicsm than I would like to see if I ran a supposadly up-market restaurant.

In spite of a loyal core of support....this place gets far too much criticsm for it to be ignored.
Certainly reading this thread, I wouldnt want to risk eating there.

The owner says he hasnt had many complaints. Probably because he seems to dismiss them.

If our experience is anything to go by, complaining about an interminable wait for indifferent food, is something he doesn't seem to recognise as a failing.

L'Orange

Post by Geoff »

We always visit L'orange whenever we come out, & our two meals in our October visit were as superb as ever. Service is always friendly & it doesn't appear that prices have gone up as much as elsewhere. The duck is excellent & the amusee bouche means you don't always need a starter. Keep up the good work Jan & all.
