Hi Peter

Thank you for the warning - I am somewhat confused as to the need to be careful with such a revelation?

I think anybody who owns and rents their property in Cvo or anywhere else for that matter would be delighted to know of a potential problem.

I do know that a great many people access this site and in particular Forum - and who do not correspond through it but are alert to the part it plays in Cvo life or should I say the protection of all we hold dear.

It's just that I could be a bit more accurate. This is a very plausable person who has operated worldwide hence the PM for more info!

The reason we need to be careful is that we can't identify the person involved at this stage, libel laws apply here too!

I can see why you may wish to err on the side of caution, but to be brutally frank, if the guy not fulfilling his side of a bargain, it is a statement of fact and others are entitled to be warned off.

once again this is not an isolated incident...after 14 years here I have heard of many "con men"..english, portuguese, german dutch etc ....just remember somerset maughns words about monaco..but its true here..."its a sunny place for shady people"

Hi Peter - I too rent out in CVO (via an agent) so thanks for warning. But isn't the answer payment up front?
I also agree with other posts re the identity of these people. Libel laws are about untruths and slander and not about identifying criminals!

We still cannot identify anyone unless they have been convicted of an offence.

I fully support the caution expressed by ktee over disclosure of identity. The Law can sometimes seem to be an ass, but given the Legal complexities involved in disclosure issues such as this, ktee's cautious approach is, in my view, appropriate. Thank you to Peter J for the warning - it is good to have this and to keep those property owners and hopefuls such as myself, on appropriate alert.
