The new 'Crazy Chicken' Restaurant

Tried to get in on Friday night, fully booked.

Following all the hype, My wife and I, and Mr and Mrs Tricky, decided to grace this restaurant with a royal visit last night.
Located as it is, on the Sesmarias Road, and very convenient for the Sesmarias brothel, (so my host informs me ), it is a very convenient for the very large British ex-pat community in that area.
We got there at 8-30, and the place was packed with Brits of a certain age, all of whom seemed to bail out in time for News at 10, and a cup of cocoa.

The decor is pleasantly modern, and the service attentive. We had a litre of the white house wine, which was supposed to be dry, but seemed more like an Italian Lambrusco for my taste.

The food, reasonably priced,was actually quite good. The chorizo starter was good, would have been even better with full size chorizo, rather than little finger width slices.
2 of us had piri piri chicken. Not as good as Rameriez in Guia, but not far off. I had the steak, very good, except for the fact that med rare came up med-well.

The desserts were a disappointment....the usual Algarvian offering of pre-frozen ice-cream desserts, plus a few locally prepared ones. but to be honest we were well fed by then!

This place is obviously the "in-place", at the moment, and even after it's newness wears off, and dies down will do well as the local eatery for the west-side ex-pats.

Living on the east side of town, we probably wont bother.....unless invited again by one of our friends over in the west

Indeed, I'll invite you over in May, but for LUNCH, when they serve a more typical Portuguese fare, and seemed on my last visit to be populated predominantly by natives.

Mind you, anything could change.

If you head towards Lagoa from the roundabout with the statue, it's on the right. You can't miss it, there's a huge chicken weather vane on the roof.

Now for the serious stuff. Having only had 3 lunches this has to an interim report on my local.

Decor excellent, food good - quality similar to Barca Velhe and Fatacil but quanties less - service not as good.

At the opposition for €7.50 you get butter with your bread, soup and and at Fatacil any type of coffee or tea.

Here butter is extra and coffe is a bica with no option - I asked for a white coffee and was charged €1.25 - not the difference between a bica and a cafe con leite of €0.50.

Service is a bit slow for a workers lunch and apart from Christina lacks warmth.

These things in isolation sound nit-picking, but together and, bearing in mind the competition, can make the difference between success and failure - so let's hope these are initial teething problems.

I agree with all Roy says. It may be a good evening venue but the set price lunch is easily beaten elsewhere. It is neither Portuguese nor "international" so you don't get the best of either. Sort of hybrid! For lunch I would not go back but good luck to them as it is filling a spot for some.

The majority of visitors and dare I say residents do not look for the " cheapest " or quickest local lunch .
THe Krazy Chicken does appear to be doing very well as it is always busy when we pass either at lunchtimes or evenings.
With margins so tight now they are probably understaffed as from our experience are many restaurants,

Not a problem for us as we hate those places where no sooner have you sat down then the food appears with each course following on one after another at record speed.
