taxi price

Post by scottishstacey »

How much is a taxi from faro airport to carvoeiro?? We havent completely decided wether to hire a car, we probably will because we want to go day trips to praia da rocha etc but other than that we probably wont use it much. We got quoted around 300-400 for the car, dont know the exact price because it was dave that did it. its a lot of money to waste if we're only going to use it a handful of times but it depends on how much a taxi would cost

Depends if you want a private taxi transfer or transfer by shutte bus/minibus. A private taxi will take you to your destination with no other drop-offs - a shuttle taxi/minibus will drop a number of people off at different locations and/or properties.

We always do private taxi, because we like to just come out of the airport and get to CVO - always book it online - we arrive Saturday 3rd Sept in the morning - booked with EasyGo (used them for years now) - it's cost me 90 euros return (2 of us) to take us to a private apartment in Monte CVO.

I think a shared shuttle with a co. like Resorthoppa would be around 20 euros each for a return.

Pay your money and take your choice, i guess.

Cheers, theres just going to be the 3 of us and 2 suitcases. I'll speak to dave tomorrow and see what he thinks. Im more than happy just to spend the 2 weeks in town, on the beach etc but he'll get restless and want to go drives. Are there buses that go to praia da rocha and other places from carvoeiro?

Stacey: there are a few posts on here if you search back which give details of many airport transfer options (one of them posted by me). We are paying a company called HolidayTaxis.com, £22 return for two us (i.e £11 each) for a shuttle bus transfer in September. We booked it through Travel Republic which was a couple of pounds cheaper than booking with them direct. I was expecting a minibus last May, but it turned out to be a luxury coach with just 16 people on it!
Have a browse back through the posts for about three pages and you will see a topic called 'Airport Transfers' - lots of advice there.

WOW thats really cheap! is there some sort of catch? lol. is there a place in carvoeiro where you can hire a car or does it need to be from the airport. my idea was to hire a car for a few days and then do the trips we want to do

i had a look at them other day and when i filled in the info form it came up saying they had no cars available for the dates we selected, ill keep trying though. we had a car for the two weeks last time but we stayed in a villa down a track road near benagil so we were far away from everything. i really dont mind not having a car this time but i guess its upto dave since hes the one that will be driving it! im going to see if i can find out about the bus services

Hi Stacey

this is an intermediary, they deal with loads of companies so maybe better chance

http://www.atlaschoice.com

I usually use http://www.bestdeal-algarve.com/ but they might not have a car available

€400 seems a bit rough for september.

you can also purchase insurance with atlasdirect , a sister company of atlaschoice for much less than with atlas choice - silly but true.

I always use economycarhire. This is a website where you can choose from a number of suppliers. I have used drive 4 fun through this site for October. Got a seat Ibiza for €15 per day including insurance.

A friend of mine stayed in Ferragudo last summer, didn't have a car but visited a few of the nearby towns using local bus service.

Try www.economycarrentals.com
I've had a car for nearly 3 weeks in August for £360 - decent car as well.
There is a car hire place opposite the apartment, but I have never used them as I'd rather use the money to get from the airport towards car hire - whatever, it will cost you a minimum of around 50 euros for three of you (and likely more than that), so put it towards car hire!

We have been quoted 60euros each way in a private mini bus door to door no luggage extras ( watch out for this with taxis ) or late/early arrival departure time premiums.
If you re staying in town close to one of the big tranfer company " official "drop off points you should obviously get it for less.

Thanks everyone. I have been quoted a good price of 100euros for return for all of us plus golf pickups. going to have a talk with dave when hes home from work. I think he'd prefer to hire a car but me and his mum have agreed that we're happy without one, we just wait to relax on the beach, go for dinner etc. Its a hard one!! Id hate to hire one and for it just to sit there, its quite a lot of money to waste. Could go towards good food and drink!

I'll have another look at car hire and see if i can find a better quote

What is the bus service like in carvoeiro? what places can you go to

There are two or three places in CVO that sell excursions to just about anywhere.
