We fly out to CVO on Saturday. I have n't seen any more news about the Forest fires. Have they finally got them under control

We have been out here since 23rd July, although the fires had started again, they seem to have been kept under control, a few in and around Silves and Monchique, and some near Messines. They are nothing like the fires of last year, and seem to be sorted out very quickly, for the cvo area, there is very little evidence of them, only had one day with a little bit of ash flying around, just come and enjoy yourself. Please do not let the fires worry you, cvo needs all the tourist to realise that there isn't a problem.

its very warm and raining yet again in UK and looks as if its raining in Carvoeiro when looking on webcam -did it rain yesterday ?so is that usual for month of august and does it mean that the fires are dampening down now?

Fires are fine (i.e. not in evidence anymore from Carvoeiro at least) and it is raining a bit here. Started on Sunday late afternoon and a welcome drizzle has cast its spell over Carvoeiro on this Monday morning.

In other news, England loses to South Africa, over to John Dempsie...

bright and sunny here(Amsterdam). not much use when stuck in the office but thankfully only 5 more days and then its portugal here i come! hope it wont be raining there then anymore! actually either sun or thunderstorms and i`m happy
