Laughable wages

Just been reading through the posts here and I can sympathise with you NParker!
Living in London is very expensive and with my own career I do spend quite a lot of time 'out of work' so to speak. So I have to do other jobs at times --at moment waitressing (bistro) .But I get above minimum wage per hour but rely quite bit on tips as well.
Reading Ellie's post about NHS its quite true. My sister-in -law works as nurse and although Im not saying you should start a nursing career
if you like UK maybe you could seek employment in the clerical side/receptionist perhaps?
But its finding accommodation you can afford thats the bug bear here

While I'm looking forward to my move, I am worrying about the jobs!

But hey, nothing's gonna stop me from coming over. There are definitely many perks in Portugal that I don't have in London. And the thought of never having to get on the Tube again is keeping me going.

I have found something so at least i'll have something to go to but I was also wanting to see if there was anything more suited to my skills.

very difficult to get your tongue round Portuguese
its all oossh and ourn and oos isnt it?
the best way to learn I suppose is to live there all the time?

Yes I have managed to get my tongue round quite a few Portuguese

I've just bought vocabulary cards, dictionaries and grammar books and I'm hoping to get further than "the white cat eats the red lobster" after all, why should the cat have the lobster!

I can understand quite a bit but it's the actual speaking that I find difficult. Thanks for the offer of teaching, I might take you up on it!

6 months to go and it's the big move. I am soooo excited.

Sure...do come to me for lessons my frrrriends Actually, that would probably make me more money than working for a company I just went for another frightning job interview today...well, you know which part of the interview that I find scary...(money makes the world go round, the world go round)...oh dear...am losing the plot...

Have you considered teaching Portuguese by phone? My wife is learning this way and finds it very successful.

If you are considering setting up Portuguese by phone, did you see last weeks Algarve Resident about a new internet based phone service. It is called www.skype.com and you can call anywhere in the world for about 1 cent per min. If you both have Skype software installed you can call them for free. Ideal for phone based learning.
