That's better but does it get over the problem of the previous hirer not paying their charges?

Not sure if this was aimed at my post but here's the Easytoll scheme.
The EASYToll system is a new solution for automatic payment of electronic tolls, for tourists and immigrants, with the association of a credit card (Mastercard and Visa) to the license plate of the vehicle. The driver, not having to leave the vehicle, enters the credit card in the payment terminal and the system automatically associates the vehicle's license plate to the bankcard. The tolls rates owed are directly debited to the account associated with the card.
This is fine if it only starts billing your card from the time you register it. However, if someone brings the hire car back at 8am with outstanding toll fees, will your card be debited with them when you register?

Where are the payment terminals located? Bit of a pain to walk to T4 get the car, then walk back to the airport terminal.

I took a look at the Toll Card which at a first glance seemed quite good. Then I went to the web site to see how the look up for balances on the card was handled. Guess what I can't find anywhere on the site to look it up. I even registered on line to see if that made a difference but alas no. Seems like another half baked scheme to me.

As far as I can see reading the details it says that these payment methods only apply to foreign registered vehicles.

Also, as far as I can see, the toll machines on the motorways are at the borders with Spain, so if you enter Portugal on a non-toll road an then get on a toll road later you still cannot pay. An improvement, but still no sensible solution.

Well I think this appears to be another finely tuned payment system put in place by the Portuguese Highways Agency that will go mammaries up
I do think that the above query re negating the previous charges on hire cars is a valid one
Can anyone answer that please.Have they sorted it?
I am no saint but when I tried to pay my toll on a hire car recently and found that I could only do this noble thing if I cleared the previous 2 tolls.??
I wont go on but what do you think I did?
