Everyday vegetarian fayre?

Post by garcia11 »

I'm visiting Carvoeiro for two weeks in August with my wife and two daughters - wife and eldest daughter are strict veggies who eat no fish. Looking on this site, we've found recommendations for restaurants that cater for veggies at the higher-priced end of the market, but can anyone recommend anywhere at the lower/middle end of the price range for eating out day-to-day rather than on special occasions.

You can try:

Up Restaurant Hill:
O Chef Antonio - mushroom risotto
Casa Algarvia - also mushroom risotto or pasta

On the "out road" just after the turning up to Monte Dourado, is A Velha with more imaginative veggie choices

Then if you want, all the pizzaa places and most Italian restaurants will do a pasta veggie dish

And finally, all the Chinese and Indian houses will do some Veg.

But remember, when we talk about "higher-priced" restaurants in Carvoeiro, its still much cheaper than UK, and the veggie dishes tend also to be the cheapest dish on the menu, so unless you're dining with heavy carnivores and drinking expensive wine, all other named veggie-friendly places can be quite reasonable.

Bon Apetite, and enjoy Carvoeiro.

HHMMM , nana in the "ROYAL FAMILY" often asked whether veggies ate wafer thin ham, my point being that many local places offer lip service only....I am as strict as a strict thing taking strict pills, ask the chef NOT the waiter 8)

 Just wanted to add, for other veggies, that we had no problems.

Favourites in Carvoeiro were El & Ela, Maximes and L'Orange. Out of CVO we all enjoyed Casa Velha do Pescador at Benagil, but my wife & daughters' favourite was The Village Inn at Mex. de Caragacao(?).

Other restaurants catered for veggies too - pizza places etc - but the above mentioned offered real (if short) vegetarian menus with a bit of imagination. :D

 I so agree with your choices, we have a fairly strict veggie in our family and these have always provided a good choice (if still small)

Michael re: credit cards - I can't be too certain as we always planned to pay cash so the issue didn't arise. L'Orange definitely don't accept credit cards, but do accept debit cards. Non-acceptance of credit cards seemed to be almost standard from my recollection of menus, but I could't say yes/no with cetainty for those listed.
