Ring beam cost

Post by petermeachem »

We've finally been sent a rather sketchy quote for house doing-up. The price for a ring beam seemed a bit expensive to me. Does anyone have any feeling for what one should cost.

I didn't bother to explain as somebody who doesn't know what it is, is unlikely to know what it costs.

It's a concrete beam cast round the top of the walls to
a) support the roof.
b) stop the walls from pushing outwards.

wouldnt the size of the house determine the size of the ring beam therefore determining the cost of the ring beam :?

Being a girlie who does know what an acro prop is but never heard of a ring beam I was interested as I like to know these things just in case more 'cowboys' try to rip me off

Ok cannot resist - been trying since 6.24 pm but isn't a ring beam what happens when you put a lighter to a fart and that comes pretty cheap in army barracks the world over!!

Sorry Peter, but if Uggie hadn't responded even though he couldn't be any help, I would never have joined in - it's not my fault, Uggie started it!!

Mads

no one can give you an answer on this without seeing the size depth etc

dont forget there is work in shuttering etc..its not just the concrete...its impossible to quantify on an internet site.

suggest you get two or three quotes

I don't think there are two or three builders. This explains how to build a mud hut http://www.world-housing.net/Tutorials/ ... orial4.asp . The two movie files are interesting, I wouldn't like to be in either house much.
