Getting an electricity supply?

Hi all, help please?

I have just purchased a house that was complete up to the point of connecting the electric. One of the terms of sale was that the connection costs would be covered by the seller which is fine. But how long will it take to connect roughly? We have submitted the paper work and are awaiting a survey for over a week now, is this normal? We are living on a generator at the moment and need power soon.
