Where can we eat?

Post by Brian117 »

Hi to all,

We're coming out to CVO early Feb, and would appreciate any information on what restaurants are likely to be open in CVO and Ferragudo. Our previous favourite, Ele & Ela, is sadly no longer, so advice on suitable replacements would be very welcome.

Thanks
BrIan

For typical Portuguese, try a Paleta in Lagoa...

A Paleta seems to have gone downhill under the new owners. Ele e Ela is now the Chefs Kitchen - same road, opposite side and 50m. further out of town. For cheap Vimar (our favourite !), Escondidinho or Recanto Boa Vista (both same family). For special occasion L'Orange or Oregano.
For 'no expense spared' BonBon.

Pleased to hear that Geoff. We went twice last year and were disappointed both times - several items were 'off the menu' , couldn't fillet the overgrilled fish which also did not taste as fresh as previously, no home made 'Molotov' any longer and no Fado on Fridays. The new owner was certainly very friendly and did say it was a steep learning curve particularly bearing in mind the stop/start/stop of Covid.
Hopefully, now the draconian regulations seem to be past, your experience will now be the norm and we can return to what used to be one of our favourites.

Thank you Geoff and Roy for your suggestions. There are quite a few we have never tried. We have been to Escondidinho a number of times, so as Recanto Boa Vista is operated by the same family that's certainly on our list. Oregano also looks interesting, in fact we may need to sample all of them.
It's a tough job, but somebody has to do it!

Take some tissues when you go to Bonbon - the bill will make your eyes water
