I am a spasmodic user of this forum, but a registered user none-the-less.
Why are so-called 'guests' allowed to post? More often than not they seem to be causing trouble and or division among the bona fide members.
Let them look by all means, but, if they want to have their two-pennyworth, then let 'em join.

Hi MC
"Guests" cannot vote in polls (one good thing!!) so we cannot blame them for being the 40% - however I was one of the 40% despite constantly going up against obnoxious guests on this forum on at least a monthly basis, I have to say that I am with those who say we virtually all start our membership as guests and the vast majority simply want to know how long it will take them to get from Faro to CVO. I really do think there are lots of genuine guests out there who post a few questions before a holiday to the area but who do not necessarily become fixated with the place as we have done - getting them to become members would be counterproductive.
Despite all of this I really take offence at obnoxious guests who post on this forum only to insult regular members or to take issue with something that has been posted usually without even the courtesy of an 'appropriate' and identifiable name (i.e. this could be a 'handle but one they use every time they post) - I do not know the answer to this.
For the record "Obnoxious" means simply that, I don't have the slightest problem with differing views and healthy debate (bloody good job too since I join in so many

what if some us guests dont know what cookies are - only the edible variety and we're not all bad you know
I'm a guest this time because it seems too embarassing to admit I still dont know what a cookie is (i didnt get to use this new forum until summer, took me that long to press the right button
and re. registering anyway - I would have to put in a false name for personal/safety reasons(not wanting to be traced by taxman etc.
) so what are we achieving? Surely obnoxious guests could register many times under aliases, - dont think registering would put them off? Please don't tar us all with the same brush - i am a friendly guest on this site and sometimes I forget to put in my name (as we all do) and come on admit it you guys you really do enjoy the 'obnoxious' guests? If you don't then you only have to remember that bullys hate being ignored, just don't give them the satisfaction of a reply. Wouldnt be a very good site if we all became politically correct and polite would it??
btw where is blobby?
and i think he's registered!!

I voted "yes".....I've been active on this site for a long time, and I've seen it come, and I've seen it go (Smokey Joe's Cafe got started over the "Blooby" incident.....I think I posted my best post at Smokeys, thanks to Maddi), and we kept going on just fine. If you were a regular visitor to this site, you would that.....we tend to police ourselves.
Speaking of policing ourselves, I couldn't help but notice that you, Mr. Crane, and Ryan, both popped up at the same time....got everyone upset, (God knows everyone hates a Pervert), and then started this Poll.
Personaly, this dosn't add up, Mr. Crane. I, as we say in Texas, smell a rat.
I welcome your reply,
Cowboy

Perhaps you stoop to such low behaviour; I do not. If I have anything to say on any topic or about any person, I come out and say it. I do not hide behind a nickname but use my own name - unlike you.
Via my profile you can access my email address, home address and telephone number - I have nothing to hide. And, if you believe that I have set up a false identity, by all means come to my house and meet me.
I don't expect an apology. But you are completely wrong and it saddens me that you even thought it let alone posted it.

Hi Guest
As you know I am happy to have Guests post on this forum for the reasons I have stated. However I do believe that if you are using the forum regularly you should register which actually takes seconds and is an incredibly simply process (ignore talk of cookies etc you can register dead easily even if a cookie for you comes with chocolate chips - why some people feel the need to blind the layman with science - god only knows.)
I do disagree with you about obnoxious guests - I do not enjoy them, I think they are vile and I actually do ignore them - as I am not one to feed the wolf. Blobby as you say is registered and as you know many of us found him obnoxious but as least we knew they were his posts, regardless of the handle, the individual owned the posts and that is all I really want. I am happy for you for reasons of personal security (a big issue in my life too bearing in mind what I do for a living) to give yourself a handle as Cowboy, Biffa and many others have done but would simply love to know when I am talking to you (and it makes it significantly easier to not be tarred with the obnoxious guest brush because you would be "sooty" or whatever)
Cowboy, as you know I disagreed with MC throughout the Ryan post, however I do not for one minute think MC is Ryan, as he says it is simply not his style, and spookily in common with me MC is perfectly happy to own everything he posts (including the crap
)

Ellie. I see your point about the email address. I often use my generic backgammon address to alert me to certain incoming emails. In this instance it was for a 'Ryan' related one.
As Maddi says, it isn't my style. I mean, I am far to self-opinionated to hide behind a bogus identity. I am more than happy to accept bouquets and brickbats under my proper name.
I dare say that if I did attempt to make an anonymous posting you and Maddi and a few others would spot me a mile off

Love to say that was true and to be honest there are any number of people on here who I can spot when they post either under another name or as a guest but I don't doubt for a minute that there are any number I have misseddare say that if I did attempt to make an anonymous posting you and Maddi and a few others would spot me a mile off
I also know that certain people who have alienated themselves under one persona for some reason have returned with a new one and I can't say I blame them for that

Maddi, you know how I always seem to court controversy - you only have to look at the Hisaronu site to see that! I don't do it deliberately. I have an enquiring mind and ask questions that others would prefer were left unsaid.
Although I am tenacious in my debating and hate to back down (but I do when proven wrong!) I always try to be honest.
The 'Ryan' posting is a good example. It was slowly dying a natural death when, out of the blue, in I step and whooosh; we're into the hundreds of reads and seventy-odd replies!
Don't despair, my detractors, I might just as easily disappear again . . . . . but don't hold your breath!

As I am sure Ryan was offended at your insuation that he was, shall we say, "Different" some how.
....Perhaps you stoop to such low behaviour; I do not.
...........
..."Hi, I was wandering where the young people go in carvoeiro?
And where are they?
And how do I come in contact with them?
Is there a chat somewhere where I can meet them?
Thanx!"
...."Am I the only one a little suspicious of this request? "
..............
I'ed say you already have, Michael.
..."I have anything to say on any topic or about any person, I come out and say it."
And so will I .....Michael, you were way out of line on Ryan's post.
I do not hide behind a nickname but use my own name - unlike you.
"Cowboy" suits me fine. (those that know me call mw "Coop")
Via my profile you can access my email address, home address and telephone number - I have nothing to hide.
Nor do I, but I do think it's foolish to put so much personal information out on the Web for all to see. It's not hiding, it's just common sense.
E-mail addresses, I can see, but anything beyond that, such home address and phone numbers is just asking for trouble.
And, if you believe that I have set up a false identity,
I don't think you set up a false idenity....I wanted you to see how it felt being on the receiving end of your little gambit.
]by all means come to my house and meet me.[/b]
I'ed love to.
Yours,
Cowboy
