International aeroporto de Alvor ---an alternative

Post by kay »

Now that Alvor Aerodrome has officially been renamed as an International Airport and Skywest start to fly in from early March maybe we have an alternative albeit only from Doncaster / kent & Blackbush.

With the runway now widened and completely re-surfaced and the new control tower starting construction in december (To be built alongside the old Cafe ...Already one can see the new Instument landing Aerials installed. ) this will indeed be welcomed by residents living on the west of the Algarve not to mention the frantic activity going on with the construction of the new Racing Circuit just 7km north, one can hear the trucks working day and night, yes the western Algarve has changed for ever. I am told that Skywest are using fairly small Turbo Prop aircraft so flight times will be longer than Easy jet but at least we will get seat allocation although they are rather noisy.
A reliable source at Alvor told me that Parachute activity will also incraese four fold with five Dornier aircraft (instead of 2 ) arriving Dec 15th and now staying all year bringing welcome activity and money to local establishments much needed now that Camara Municipal have earmarked another 5 million for further expansion as they compete with Lagos and Loule who also have hopes of a local airport presumably with the F1 track in mind. Possibly we might see a shuttle service to Carvoeiro and back next year.

Thanks for the thought Brian, but they are not released for all UK airports at the same time. Seems that LGW for example is still not available, although Stanstead is :?

It always makes me laugh at our airport (Edinburgh), you can always tell the queue waiting for the Alicante flight (benidorm), they have the brand new white trainers on and jogging bottoms, loads of kids in tow and buggies everywhere and not forgetting the big ghetto blasters they all seem to have! Imagine ending up on the beach beside them yuck! The queue for faro tend to be more mature, the men with their tweed jackets on and the women dressed to kill. Hubby and I are an exception of course

A bit snobbish and disrespectful to hard working people who also deserve a holiday. I have queued for the Benidorm flight with my kids and yes with a buggy when they were younger. Of course we all had new clothes on and why not? Now the ghetto blaster, not for me either granted

Oh Stevie C, you do have a sense of humour! My comments were supposed to be light-hearted! And we also have been with kids and buggy but thankfully past that stage in life

Summer flights from LGW now available.

Bookings up till September 28th only.

Dammm, we wanted to return on Sept 29th. Guess I'll buy one way out and either buy a return later, or perhaps just not return. Now there's a thought :D
