Air-conditioning and Heating

We are about to move into our new house in Mato Serrao shortly but need to install air-conditioning and heating systems first. Can anybody reccomend a dependable company to carry out this work for us.???

I would recommend Autoheat in Porches on the N125 by the wine shop, they put our central heating in and have been great.

I would highly recomend MR Jacob who is in Lagoa he has a shop there on the road out to Portimao. You can park in the bus station car park and walk through. Sorry I do not have a phone number.

Has anybody had any experience installing the DIY units such as you can buy at Worten and the DIY stores?

WE too have a question , are there less obtrusive systems available than the conventional wall mounted units.

It does seem that rooms are spoiled by the boxes on the wall.

terry, you could go for the portable air con units , these will stay out of sight in a cupboard when not in use , and saves the need for an installation .

These do however have to be vented to the outside when in use. (The extracted heat has to go somewhere)

Portable does n,t sound such a bad idea as you can move then to the rooms when needed, how efficeint are they when compared to your normal wall mounted units ?

Portable units are OK but not as efficient as wall units and are noisier. The condensed water receptacles also need to be emptied when full. This may not be too often in Portugal but here where the humidity is always around 70-80% it is hourly. The insde (blower) bit of conventional split units can be very neat but it is the outside (compressor) unit that can be an eyesore, particularly when you have several a/cs installed and they appear all over one wall. We have some friends in Spain who installed Daikin evaporative a/c's which have several interior blower units but only one external unit that can be placed unobtrusively. They are very pleased with the result.

Some of the interior units are much more unobtrusive than they use to be, we had streamline reflective units fitted the idea being that they reflect their surroundings & blend in. We did have all the external units placed on one wall in the utility area as we thought this preferable to having an ugly great unit on the exterior wall of every room that had AC. We used Autoheat for AC, Solar, water softner & purifyer & pool pump. They are very good, very helpful & efficient. Not the least expensive I'm sure but sometimes you get what you pay for.
