The 'Phoenix' of the series' title is a Bolton social club, run by Brian Potter, who is determined to make the venue a legendary one where "clubland never dies".

Brian is bad-tempered, stingy, bitter, mean-spirited and calculating, and he uses charity boxes to raise money for himself. Oh, and he also has a terrible taste in patterned sweaters. (He should blend in well in CVO)!!!
