Fireworks????

I've lived here for almost 25years and have never seen fireworks on New Years Eve (except 1999/2000 and even then I'm not sure it was Carvoeiro!), I've seen them at Carvoeiro Clube, Solferias and Almansor. I think someone spread the word for a laugh!! Happy New Year to all

I must be confused with the Saints Day in August then although my wife assures me that we watched them from our house two years ago. Perhaps it was just me making the earth move for her?

Pinkieblueky can you tell me what date saints day is in august, i wanted to book my next holiday to coincide with it.

Hi Loretta!
Do you mean Lagoas Saints day ?
This is the Senhora da Luz day and it was during our holiday period on Monday September 8th. We just went to the afternoon part and there was quite a big gypsy market up by Lagoas main church.
Didnt stay till evening but Portuguese friend told me they had really good time

Think another member here Dave Prescott might be able to tell you more as I know he and his wife attended.

The Festa da Nossa Senhora da Encarnação is the last Sunday in August, it is the same time as the Fatacil. Sunday is the day of the procession and blessing of the boats and the traditional games on the beach. There are stalls selling clothes, bags (good and cheap!!), sweets and a variaty of other things. It usually lasts the whole weekend.Someone said the festa is rife with pickpockets and theives, but I think that is true with any large gathering of people anywhere in the world. I personally have never had any problem and don't know of anyone who has.

Ellie / Pinkie, thanks for your replies, however i think the saints day i am talking about is the one that you mentioned pinkie, i remember when i was in cvo about 4/5 years ago and we didnt realise that there was a saints day, when we went into town there were market stalls all down the main road and on the square there was also music in the square and at the end of the night there was a fantastic firework display
