I think you would have to walk into the square and then walk up the Monte Dourada road. There aren't any cut throughs as far as I know.

Out of the way sort of hidden and not to far out of town with lots more than 80 spaces. This new idea sounds a bit stupid seeing as along that bit of road you could probably park 80 cars anyway1 I don't think people renting in Monte Dourado are going to think it's very funny when their road is the main road in and out of carvoeiro  Also Ma-Ja's road (Rua do Casino) is to become one way but the other way, no mention of the Tia Ilda road, I don't think it's been thought through very well.
Could someone please explain how the Monte Dourado road will become the main road in and out of Carvoeiro. What is going to happen to the in and out roads and restaurant hill road? :?

The apartment I stay in at Monte Dourado overlooks the back road that goes up to the M.D, office and I see cars/vans etc struggling up that hill.
Ive struggled up it myself a few times (but couldn't do it now)

Richard once told me that they were going to have 'cable cars' up to Monte Carvoeiro....and I believed him  , the naughty man

....but would'nt that be so cool? Imagine taking the Lisbon Elevador and putting it between Sully's and the travel agency, or up the Jailhouse hill :P

The problem with the traffic in Cvo is, that in season you get hundreds of cars driving through although they would be better advised to take the roads around Carvoeiro - say if you want to get from the inbound road from Lagoa to the Almansor or Palm Gardens, you should take the left at the Poço Partido traffic light and head towards ADM.
Lots of people drive in just to take a look and end up getting caught between the delivery trucks and the 4 o'clock bus playing chicken on restaurant hill.

The bus needs to be re-routed somehow, but like you said, the market hill just isn't an option. No hill is.... who decided to build this place between so many hills anyway??

No one it just evolved as people fell in love with it. That's what happens with beautiful areas.

Yeah I know G, it would be lovely and it would mean I could take my leg anywhere, up any hill
When I called Richard a naughty man, I meant he was a teaser  I believed his every word!

There was a time when I walked those hills easily, now it would be too painful for me. But Id love it if there was an easier way for me to get to the clifftops, either by the little train or perhaps a cable car? or maybe an elevator / lift from the beach?

Thats a shame. G, has it been shut for good, or just for "repairs" ?

As far as i understood, it broke down some weeks ago. I did not read the whole article, but it was unclear wether it would be opened to the public again.

It would be a real shame. I took that elevator to school for 2 years and it was always such a great ride through those narrow alleys up into the Bairro Alto

There is some more info in this weeks Resident. The pavements on Rua dos Pescadores and Rua do Barranco are to be widened by removing car parking. Looks like many people will have to get used to walking! Also the project is due for completion by summer 2009.

I also read that article, which seems to make quite a lot of sense. Instead of weaving between cars parked along these roads, you'll now weave between chairs and tables outside the various establishments along the way.

But I hope they've thought it all the way through and will have facilities for delivery trucks to stop and offload beer barrels at each of the bars along the way.
