Hi All. We are visiting for our annual family holiday next week & really looking forward to it. However, this year my husband is having to folow a really stict diet due to food intollerences. We don't want to carry loads of unnecesary stuff out to Carvoeiro, as I know there are good supermarkets and a health food shop .... can anyone tell me if the follwing are available and where?:
Nairns Oatcakes (other brands no good if they contain olive oil)
Pure Porridge Oats
I think you can find a great deal these days in the 'whole food' sections of the supermarkets out there now. I found pure oats in that isle last month not sure about oatcakes tho'. they do have a lot of things.
The Continente at Algarve shopping Mall has a large section at the front of the store near baked goods with all sorts of organic, gluten free etc. Not able to have olive oil - that will be difficult in Portugal!
Intermarche have Quaker porridge oats and they also sell Scottish oatcakes but I don't know the make of them. Next time I'm in there, probably tomorrow, I'll have a look and let you know.
Many thanks to you all ... and yes, Helen, I'd really appreciate you checking Intermarche for me .... I can imagine carrying oatcakes out in our suitcase only to find oat crumbs on arrival!
Hi. I've looked in Intermarche and they sell Walkers Highland Oatcakes and also Walkers cheese oatcakes, 4.45 euros. I looked at the ingredients and they only have vegetable oil in them, no olive oil. They're at the end of the biscuit aisle by the cream crackers on the shelf low down. Hope this helps.
