Hi Lyn,

There is Mona Lisa which is just round the corner from Centianes in the direction of town, or Julios, but Julios seems to be a bit hit and miss and certainly is not the cheapest portuguese food in the area.

To walk into town will take you about 25 minutes down and 35 minutes back.

You could always get the little train from Rocha Brava, I don't know how much it costs, but I don't think it is that expensive. Rocha Brava has a restaurant and internet cafe on site and there is a restaurant opposite the entrance to Rocha Brava, but I haven't eaten there in years so can't say what it is like.

Hope this helps :)

If the evening is warm enough then O Stop (above the beach) have a variety of food in the evening. Plus it's a lovely setting.

I would recommend Jardim do Farol which is just past the entrance to Rocha Brava. Good food at reasonable prices. It is popular and at busy times you would need to book.

Why not go to algarve 2000 at the back of rocha brava. George the malaysian owner now has his indian chef back and is the best place about for curries. Try it and you will go back. I promise you. He also does loads of other foods. And he is a lovely guy.

Mona Lisa is probably the closest as you head into town. This place is an informal pizzeria, with a few other Italian alternative dishes. It's fairly basic but if a pizza and a beer are all you want, then there is no better place of this sort in town.

A few yards further on is the Hotel Cristal - do not make the mistake of ever eating here - the food is totally dreadful - a pity because overall it's a reasonable hotel.

Unfortunately there aren't really any restaurants as you walk further into town. The Almansor hotel restaurant ain't great but at least it has nice views. Off the main road to the left as you head into town is Algar Seco, which does have a very good restaurant, the Algar Seco Beach Bar.

The restaurants really start at the top of the hill as the road heads down into the town centre. An old workhorse of ours is A Rede on the right hand side.

I need to be a little careful here......but I can see Algarve 2000 from our villa. It should be a regular venue for us. It isnt. The food is not good. The Indian food is about the same as a cheap takeaway at home.
The 2 other Indian restaurants are far superior.

It does however have a pool table.

I have heard George described as many things. Lovely isnt one of them, and he is well known in Carvoeiro amongst the business community.

Careful Bruce. Careful.
This site is for the tranfer of information - helpful information. Your comment on George was really not called for.
You obviously don't know him socially.

We ate at Algarve 2000 a few years ago and the curry was dreadful - i asked whether or not it would have coconut in - answer was a NO - but the curries were nothing like a Rogan Josh more like a coconut curry - and George was not for giving us a refund either!!! his assistant did though. We have never been back either shame as they did a decent breakfast.

That row of shops/bars are extremely handy for people staying at that end of Rocha Brava.

Roll on 11 weeks on Friday.

I've known him over 5 years. That he is well known in Carvoeiro is a fact. As this site is for friendly transfer of information, without defamation, I have ventured nothing more than a word of caution.

Lyn,
I always believe it better to try a restauarant out for yourself. Some comments you get might be from people who have not been there for quite some time. We all know how quickly restaurants go bad but some come good too.

Don't be put off by comments such as we have seen here.

Really Mike, I am surprised that you have had good reports about Via Italia, but pleased too if its true. It should be good, it has the potential to be good. Perhaps you will try it on your next 'inspection' trip and let me know.
