I think that may be the problem. See some comments about Sofeiras itself on Trip Advisor.

Met two lots of people that have eaten there over the last 10 days.
First crowd was a very pleasant group of ladies who had come over for a weekend celebrating. They all had cataplanas and the like and all said their meals were excellent, taste and service and price was good. They had no complaints.
Second, was a couple who had eaten in there a few times and again were very happy.

 That is good to hear. Maybe they have taken the considerable amount of criticism to heart and acted upon it. If so, they deserve full credit.....and another chance

Call me a cynic, but if I were you Bruce, I'd hang back with the plaudits until you hear a few other (1st hand) recommendations and/or a personal visit - if you dare !

That is the plan LJ....I am one of Boteco's biggest critics, but if credit is due, then fine....if not....I'll slay the bastards!!!

Sorry Bruce.....

Friends have just returned today from a 2nd stay in CVO. They came back with loads of glowing reports of fantastic restaurants and good times, but one dire warning: "Food at O Boteca was awful".

sigh !

At the end of day, they are their own worst enemy....I made my "fair minded" suggestion to my wife, who responded, "Over my dead body, we wasted enough time and money on awful meals before we wrote it off....Im not wasting my precious holiday by going back there again!"

As you all know.....I always have the last word with my wife.....so I stood up, asserted myself and said, as always, "Yes dear!"

Well that made me laugh.
If I feel up to it when we are over in October we shall go and give it a try. Not going to go mad though on what we spend there. I shall write a full report on our return then.
If anyone could suggest a simple meal for me to try so as to make it a fair report to those that will read it please do so.
