Post by dakar »

Not having visited Monte Carvoeiro before for dining - can I ask for some suggestions for a good a la carte menu. Sadly we are not into Fish

Appreciate suggestions soonest for our upcoming pilgrimage to Carvoeiro.

Easy. No need to go to the stone steak houses.... !

Elliots and O Salmao. Two of the better restaurants in CVO are both in Monte Carvoeiro, and both serve great meat dishes and both have good Vegetarian options.

My advice????

Descend down from your eyrie on Monte Carvoiero, and discover the village.

Now now, Bruce. Surely we are not starting the great East/West debate again are we? :D
I agree with Richard, both the stone steak and elliots and O'Salemo are decent restaurants, but its also worth venturing a bit further along the road to the restaurant at Vila Nova. Nice food and good value for money.

O Salmao has an excellent menu, we really enjoy the food. Unfortunately even thought the staff are very nice & the service is good it is really lacking in any sort of character or atmosphere so I would suggest going in a group & creating your own. :D

Not east verses west at all Tricks......Monte Carvoeiro has some nice properties, but I feel that the square has a contrived development feel about it. If you like more Villamora than Carvoeiro.

One of our favourite restaurants, Escondhinio, is over there in the west!

Id really like to know about Elliots....we think that we may know the owners from Suffolk, but the first time we went up there it was closed, the 2nd it was empty and uninviting. Maybe in June?

Vila Nova is on the road out to lagoa, if you go past Monte Carvoeiro on the right (as if you were going towards Escondido) and go towards the new development at Monte Santo, take the first left after it and you will see in on your right.
Its in a very small exclusive complex (only the best people have appartments there) :D and you can eat inside or at the side of the pool under a terrace

The food is mainly Portuguese, and if you like A Gale you will love it.
Very reasonable and good atmosphere with terrific friendly service.
Its a bit of a hidden secret, but a favorite with many on the forum.

Hi Tricky Vila Nova is #8 on freemaps. If I am walking up past the QDP reception to the top of the road then turn left, how far is it along the road? Would it be reasonable to expect 4 adults and 2 teenagers to eat there for €100 - €120. No starters, 6 mains, 3 desserts, some beer wine and coke. If not then the kids won't get coke or desserts

About 400 yards Stevie. Yes you can eat for that, but the menu is on the road before you turn left into 'vila nova' road so you can check for yourselves. There is a playground and pool table so the teenagers can go and mingle whilst you have your after dinner drink.
