Take care Jayne and enjoy . . . and whatever happens keep posting - I for one would love to hear the exploits of someone young and free spending a summer in this way so I can live again, nefariously, through you.

Jayne, dont know if this will help but why dont you have a look at the book, "work your way around the world" by Susan Griffith. Im looking to work all across europe this summer/winter including the algarve and this book has been a major help. The section exclusivley on the Algarve is short, but helpful, and the book offers great general advice when looking for summer work. Also check out www.anyworkanywhere.com and also www.fruitfuljobs.com to get in contact about fruit picking in Portugal (not sure if thats your thing-but money is money!). Hope this helps,

Have you any contacts at all in CVO Jayne?
I am going to write to friend of mine there this weekend. I could ask if she needs anyone in her place? Do you speak any of the lingo..not absolutely necessary..but big asset!
Mind you..Im looking for some work there myself..not holding out much hope...just keeping fingers crossed.
Thinking of going out there for a week to have a look round next month.Maybe best thing to do.
Have you tried advert in 'The News' or 'The Resident'?
I got a job out there few years ago this way.
Wish you luck..Ellie :)

I don't have any contacts in CVO. Been e-mailing a few companies in area but no joy.

Would really appreciate you asking your friend. What kind of work may she have?

Do speak a little bit of the lingo and am currently learning.

I am visiting in April to job hunt or attend interviews if I find anything before then.

Have considered placing ad to see if that gets any replies so may go down that road.

Have several years experience as Travel agent and working in a customer service/admin environment.

Would be happy with bar/waitress work or cleaning not fussy

Best thing to do is arrive hopefully with money to last a month (and accommodation) and ask!!! Turnover of staff in the service industry is HIGH You should be Ok! but you will never know if you don't try!!!

Hello Jayne!
I think Peters is pretty sound advice.
My friends in restaurant business,so it would be waitressing. I think you saidyou wouldn't mind? Any way Im writing to her tonight so Ill put in a word for you(no harm in asking!)
I would think that your travel agent/ customer service will get you something but you seem willing to have a go at anything to get started,so youve the right attitude :)
if I get positive answer ..Ill let you know right away!Ellie

Post by newbie! »

hi, i know this is a CVO forum but does any one have any idea what the working conditions are like in Lisbon or any of the larger cities? I'd like to start travelling and portugal seems a great place to start (close enough so I can run home to mammy if things go ar*e over t*t!) thanks!
