villa insurance

Hello there

Our villas insurance is due to be renewed in September and I know I have seen somewhere a thread on Insurance for contents and buildings etc.
I just want to know if we can insure with a company from England.

Before we moved out here full time I used to insure my villa through Saga. The policy was very good value and offered excellent coverage. You do of course have to be age 50 or over to use the Saga services.

Intasure are a UK company that will do it. If you Google them you will get their details.

Make sure whatever you do, it's covered for earthquake damage and if you rent, liability insurance.

We switched to Insurance for Homes Abroad last year and saved about 30% on what we had been paying. Earthquake insurance was included.

thanks for all your help I have been in touch with intasure and at the moment they seem the best, although I am just about to contact AXA etc.

thanks to you all. I have been in touch with the various company's and still so far Intasure seem to be the best, quotes so far have been between £297 up to £600 [thats SAGA], just waiting for the insurance for homes abroad to come back to us.

I use Intasure and they seem a reasonable price - currently £234 for a 2 bed villa

Hi All

We are in the process of buying and i have looked at all the sites you have recommended which have been incredibly helpful. but where do you get the guidelines for how much to insure the building sum for and contents. It is a 2 + 1 Bed townhouse. Does the lawyer recommend at completion and is there an earthquake risk in Portugal? I thought not.

I had my place surveyed and they gave an estimate on rebuilding costs. There are several earthquakes every year in Portugal - there was a massive one in 1755 which destroyed much of Lisbon and was followed by a Tsunami. The Tsunami (which was a result of the initial earthquake) destroyed much of the Algarve.

Because I am over a restaurant, most companies were not interested in insuring me because of fire risk. I ended up with a company called Insurance for Homes Abroad (underwritten by Lloyds). They are based in Weston Super Mare. I have not had to claim as yet, so no idea if they are any good or not.

That's the company which I quoted - see the above link. They are very pleasant people to deal with.
