Colombo's

Post by Rob Watson »

The wife and I are regular visitors to CVO but until last week had never been to Colombo's. We have tried a lot of restaurants in CVO and this ranks amongst the best in our view.

The service from Pedro was superb and the quality of the food excellent

Ended up going there 3 times during a 9 night stay.

Perhaps a little more expensive than average but not excessively so and in any case we don't mind that as long as we get better than average quality and service, which we certainly did.

3 dishes to try:

Hake Portugese style
Fillet steak in red wince sauce
Cataplana

we have now eaten here a few times and always had excellent food especially on New Years eve last year when we probably had one of our best meals - the fillet steak was superb

Hi All

We also ate there last new years eve. We have also had many good meals at Columbos. We believe they have the best steak in CVO, which is something I have said efore on the forum.

Bang next door to Smilers, the taxi rank is in front of it.
I nearly always have the hake portuguese style it's cooked with tomatoes, onions & peppers, very provincial, & served with rice, really good. Their fillet steak is excellent too. It's also a good place to celebrate new years eve (not that I'm thinking that far ahead). :D

What can I say or add? Except that it is my favourite eating place :)

Geninia and Marcos are very good friends of mine and Pedro too. Ive never had a bad meal there.

Its a place where I feel at home and am always made to feel at home. I always spend my first night at Colombos and go there often during my holidays..either for lunch or dinner.
I love the pepper steak and another favourite is Swordfish steak done with lemon and butter :P
If Im not very hungry another meal I like there is breast of chicken with salad and its served with a light curry sauce..delish!
What I also like is, you can ask for a certain dish a certain way. I often have chicken breast with piri piri sauce.

I spent my last night there in September 2007 and what a merry night we had
Pedro always has my drink ready when I go in....a large rose spritzer

Well I never, thats it for me, first place to try when we get back and as I like a Ros'e myself i'll have one of those/ or 2.

Looking forward to it. We are aiming to be out there for a good few weeks so should get to try the menu out.

Now any suggestions for a good Veggie menu, as though Hub eats meat I only eat fish or chicken.

 all the restaurants do really nice fish meals, as well as chicken. If you want real veggie then Maximes is good, Casa do bife just up from Maximes is lovely for fish, chicken and beef all cooked on a stone or you can have it grilled. Really just 'go for it' look through the restaurant reviews and try your luck.

Brasserie Marina has very good food but quite expensive in comparison.

Thanks Leslie-Jean
I have been in to Maxim's several times but there only ever seems to be stuffedpancakes (crepes) or peppers as veggie.
I agree though The Steak House is great for Fish.
Thanks Again

The Castelo Indiano restaurant has arguably the best views and curries in town and also a wide selection of vegetable and chicken dishes.

We were not impressed with their fish dishes however.

Thanks for that it's a good job next time were there its for a good few weeks, that many I've added to the list.
Though, we have tried and tested favourites, it is good to have a few to 'Try'. Think that we went in the Indian a few yrs ago, is it the one on the Rest Hill on the right going up?
They also own the one on the up road to Monte CVO, don't they, is that as good?
Not been in there and must try.

Going to joining the rolly pollies.
