Mads!
I do believe this is a bit of a 'windup' job by our Gerry :)
But then again..we are used to it arent...being the 'auld' enemy  ...but we can 'take it' :)
Wouldnt mind betting..underneath it all..they do have a sneaking admiration.....specially for our 'Rugger' team (I just had to sneak that one in!)the lovely boys! :) :)
and I mean..not only the Irish..but Welsh& Scottish too :)

Gerry

I do not think that you are inarticulate at all, I think we have very different opinions but that is fine, to quote Voltaire "I may not agree with what you do but I will defend to the end your right to do it."

We are not going to agree on this whatever, I take each person, nationality, race and creed and hope to embrace them and their beliefs for what they are - I refuse to take on the views and bigotry of others as my own, I am way too intelligent for that.

So we agree to disagree, (although I would never call them small differences!)

Yeah..I got you going there for a minute Gerry ..didn't I
I really do think...that we do relish in being disliked sometimes..it is what we're used to 'the English'..after all..we are a 'mongrel race'..and as most 'dog lovers know full well...a 'mongrel' is far tougher than any pedigree breed :?:
Come on now..its only a game for goodness sake...and Im sure we'd all enjoy a few glasses together afterwards..whoever wins or loses..right?
Oh well..it was worth a try :)

“a bit of craic” that’s what it is.

I don’t think people should take a game like football too seriously. It’s only entertainment, and OK it’s comes natural to support the side with the same name as your home country, but what’s it all worth?

You want my opinion…. you can
a. get drawn in by all that media hype wave your flag and get pissed
b. sit back and wonder why there’s no business like show business
c. join in the fun whilst grabbing the opportunity to wind people up

a. is harmless but a bit naïve
b. is the safest but a bit dull
c. is the most popular but be careful who you wind up

Well said Digger......lets lighten up and enjoy! :)
Nothing wrong with a bit of 'rivalry' and healthy competition!
After all...isnt it we English..who are supposed to have the attitude of
"Its not who wins or loses..but the 'taking part'...playing the game"
Oh gawd Digger....could I be doing more 'winding up' by this last remark :?:
Maybe it was a Welsman/Scotsman/ Irishman who said it ?
