Some sort of affiliate scam, you can't do this for no money, servers cost money, bandwidth costs money.

I agree Tricky.

Sometimes the mods seem to operate unfair dual standards on this site.

If I want to promote the fact that I have a cancellation week on my villa the mods kill my post, yet things like this get away with it.

Likewise Ma-Jas constantly promote their restaurant in the guise of advertising "events". Touting for christmas trade is not promoting an event.

Likewise, lovely as she is, White Rabbit, Mandy, uses the forum as a means of promoting her business

To be fair, this post only appeared yesterday evening and even MODS get some time to themselves, stuff like this normally gets deleted pdq. As to blatant advertising, I can see your point Bruce but a "special" at one of the local bars is of potential interest to cvo residents and visitors. Equally, White Rabbit is providing services that might be of interest.

Personally, I don't see why a regular contributor shouldn't be able to post a simple message regarding a sudden availability. I guess one issue is that there are people paying to advertise on the site.

May I please remind that the moderators are volunteers who can't be on-line 24/7 - especially at weekends .

We have a special section for last minute deals on rentals, please use that;
http://www.rent.carvoeiro.com/RentalResults_Offer.php for your vacancies.

Am I missing something here? If this is spam and there is indeed something being offered for free . . . . how do I find it? Nothing in the above post actually takes me anywhere - or has it been edited by the mods? It would appear not, for if it had been they'd have deleted it, wouldn't they?

As adverts goes it's as useful as saying, "Free money for all. Just get yourself round to my Gran's house and bring a big bag!"

You've really got to be on the ball to see these scams BEFORE the mods have deleted the offending stuff which originally gave more info.

Rentals are rentals and will be treated differently simply because, whilst the site offers free job adverts, it also offers a paid rental advert service.

Look, the job is really not a cakewalk, but Kteee and I have been happy to help Steen do it for the last years.
You know as well as we do, that there will always be differences in opinion over wether or not certain controversial posts should be locked away or not - lots of these topics are borderline and people will always try to push the envelope.

It may well be a dual standard, Bruce, because our standard is not your standard - You see, you only have to justify your own text, whereas we find ourselvs, more often than not, having to justify the existence or extinction of other people's texts.
We may not even agree with the content, yet we have to try to remain unbiased and look at the content of a post and the context (which can go well beyond the forum sometimes) and make a decision based on a small set of guidelines.
It is not an easy job, and it is a "job" because it can take up a good few hours of our day sometimes.

Personally, I would really appreciate if a year went by when people didn't turn on the mods, but I guess it is just that time of the year again.

Not wishing to look like a goody toe shoes, but to be honest I think the moderators do a great job on this site, it is always well policed and fairly controlled. There has to be a little give and take on here but I have found it a very good site to use with very little offensive content, what does get through gets deleted very quickly. As it is something people do as a 'part time' service I would not expect them to be controlling it 24 hours a day.

All I can say is well done to them all and keep up the good work.

The initial post was obviously spam - unfortunately none of us were online yesterday evening, personally I spent most of the weekend confined to bed due to the health problems I have at the moment so I am so sorry that spam posts were not my priority :?

Moderating means taking difficult decisions at times, we're never going to get it right 100% in everybody's eyes, but we do our best. Steen has the final say, and if you're not happy with the way the site is run, you don't have to post - simple!

Many people support this site financially and it is only fair that they receive priority over those who don't.

kteee can I suggest a laptop. You can keep up to date with your MOD duties and it will act a bit like a hot water bottle :)

Sorry you are not well and I'm sure we all wish you a speedy recovery.

Here's to the moderators. They do a good job.

I guess that the old saying 'you can't please all of the people all of the time' is very apt here.

There are always people who will complain about anything just for the sake of it. It is what keeps them happy!!!!!!
