What about Escondidinho's at the edge of Quinta do Paraiso? Traditional cheap and cheerful restaurant.

Bars and Restaurants

Post by suziebear »

Hi there Michael, know youre on your cruise now, but some more for you when you get back

In good old Sesmarias, Carvoeiro

Bar Sesmarias (fondly known to those in the know as ROSA's) great local bar which does bar snacks, buys daytime and early evening, locals and golfers - open very early to very late, not open Sundays, on the main road through Sesmarias just after the Water Tower

Jophil - Bar & Restaurant
Again on the road through Sesmarias - daily specials always busy at lunchtime with locals

Donatos, Opposite Rosas in Sesmarias

Italian restaurant, great atmosphere, great pizzas - closed Sundays

Colina da Lapa - Bar & Restaurant
Open daily, Restaurant and Bar Snacks available. Pool bar open in the Summer - TV (Sports) and Games Tables. Great place to go if you are staying around Sesmarias/Ferragudo area and dont want to go into Carvoeiro. Dago & Trish - great hosts and lovely people. Located on the road from Sesmarias to Ferragudo on the Colina da Lapa development, however, you dont have to be staying there to use the restaurant and bar. Tel 282 340 477

Praia Grande - Bar and Restaurant, located just above the beach at Praia Grande, perfect location for chilling out and if you have children, (as there is a play area just below the Restaurant on the beach and the beach is within the breakwater, so very safe)! There is a very large outside terrace, Great Menu for Adults and children alike, Bar snack or something more substantial, great for fresh Fish. Open all year, closed on Wednesdays. Hosts Paulo and Zea, lovely couple, nothing is too much trouble.
Tel 282 461174

O Branco - Bar & Restaurant on way through from Sesmarias via Golden Club Carvoeiro just on the bend they do 7 Euros at lunchtime and normal menu in evening.

And, as somebody else has mentioned, O Escondidinho - always good food, the only place I know where everything is served with chips, rice, fried egg and salad (except fish fillet) Fantastic value inc bread, wine/beer, coffee get there early or you may not get in there! Outside seating too.

Estombar, on the way to Slide & Splash Restaurant a Palmeira, good food, 7.5 Euros for daily specials, bread etc, main course, pud, wine or beer and coffee - absolute bargain and good guy who runs it too! Tel 282432090
Thats about as much as I know about around here.
Phew!

xx

Not to be confused with the O Escondidinho already mentioned but there is also a bar/ restaurant of the same name at Praia Grande at Ferragudo. Go down the steps, past the restaurant already referred to, onto the beach and turn right. It is about 50 yards away.

I think it openson or around the 2nd Feb. It is an absolutely fabulous spot to while away those warm sunny days watching the boats go by.

I'm not sure if you have included the bar on the opposite side of the road to Carvoeiro Bar on your list. I think it's called Mexicalho or something similar

What about the new one on the ADM?, in English is it the "meeting place"? He's a nice guy and the foods cheap and wholesome. 8)

Havana definitely open was in there for happy hour on Friday and Saturday - not called lush for nothing.

Friday, went in there for pre dinner cocktails, as it was hubbys birthday, we went onto the Pimento Preto (the restaurant at Pestana Palm Gardens) - which has recently been taken over by Nuno - Pedro his chef is a gem. The atmosphere was great, it was very busy, he was doing a special 6 course menu on Friday (but other people were in eating from their normal menu) The meal we had was absolutely superb, the service excellent - I can honestly say, it is the best meal etc that I have ever had in the 16 years I have been coming here - definitely on a par with my favourite No Patio in Lagos. :) :) :)

Saturday, HAD to go in Havana again  as we ordered a takeaway from O Indiano and they told us 30 mins (they were really busy too) anyway met up with a few people there too who we hadn't met before (Colin the tree man, Andres and his wife Donna who works for Cosmos, so had a really good hour (oops late picking up the takeaway) as we ordered a takeaway from O Indiano and they told us 30 mins (they were really busy too) The takeaway was pretty good too.

PS Havana happy hour currently 6.30 - 8pm not sure if it changes
