Forgive me for being typically obtuse......but your point is???

We go to a car company because they are just that. Car Hire Companies.

If they go to sub-contracters that is their problem.
Our primary, and therefore enforcible contact is with the company with whom we took out the contract in good faith.

Can I just say that I am not spreading gossip or malicious rumours.
My daughter booked two cars through YOR car in June last year, when she arrived at the airport she was greeted by who she thought was the representative of YOR/Algarve Driver he had all the documents from YOR and her booking of the 2 cars etc with him. It was only when they then said that they only had one car available even tho' she had booked two cars, it gave her enough ammunition to be worried. Eventually she was given the two cars after the guy asked for another car to be brought to the airport, paid in cash for the rental and signed a credit card slip in case of damage or fuel discrepancies and went off to enjoy her weeks holiday with her friends. The car was returned with no damage or discrepancy with fuel.
It was not until she got back to the UK she discovered that Sevis had taken 1,000 euros from her account. She got in touch with her credit card and disputed this amount, they then disputed it with the company, Sevis, who had been given the car hire by YOR for some reason!!!
She is now in dispute with YOR as they were the company that she signed the contract with and who she agreed to hire a car with, for the 1,000 euros that Sevis has taken from her. She gave YOR until 29th January to pay this amount as it will then start costing her in interest by her credit card company. Guess what....... No Money

This is why I am now saying to people who ask, to
be very careful when hiring a car with YOR that you do not get a rep from Sevis instead of a YOR or Algarve driver rep.

I agree Bruce but YOR will not pay back this money to my daughter even tho the contract she signed was with them.

My point is that we are not dealing with the " owners of the cars " but agents for the owners or effectively companies who like us are " renting the car ".
As for your legal protection how many of us read and understand the terms and conditions , I would not rely too much on this.

I want to Know if the company I am dealing with " owns the car " I am renting.
There is also the cost issue, dealing with an agent means that there is another margin to be taken, which of course is passed on to us the consumer.
Why?
In the early days of our visits to the Algarve we booked through one of the better knowm " agents ".
We got to know the guy at the airport and asked him if we booked directly with them would we get a better price.
His reply was that he could but if the " agent " found out he would risk their bookings.
We found another who was prepared to negotiate and have stayed with them for our 5-6 trips/year.

I have always ( for the past 6 years) used Travelrent.

Easy to deal with, and ( touch wood ) have never had a problem.

Maybe I've just been lucky.

I am extremely sorry about the situation with Lesleys daughter;

Car rental companies in general take all the bookings they can get and then exchange cars between them to meet requirements when needed.

In this case Sevis - Aluguer de Viaturas Lda provided two cars to Yor. Normally car rentals going through me are made on standard YOR car rental contracts, in this case the Sevis rep made the contracts when delivering the cars and charged the deposit. Sevis claims to have reimbursed the deposit to a wrong credit card following the car rental but I now have no faith in them having googled them.

When made aware that the situation had not been solved on January 19th I immediately contacted YOR and Sevis and proposed to reimburse the client while they sorted the situation with the credit card company. They argued that it would better to reimburse through the credit card company which I am not able to do. Only later did they inform me that a fast transfer through the credit card company was not possible and requested the IBAN of the client. I forwarded the IBAN and again offered to do the transfer but was told it would be done immediately (27/1).

I now have a written statement from YOR that only YOR standard contracts are being used for algarvedriver.com clients and that credit card details are not passed to subcontractors.

I am very sorry having put Lesleys daughter through all this and have reimbursed both bookings by transfer this morning. Should there be any expenses or interest charged I'll also cover that.

Thank you Steen for this response. I have always used your company with no problems what so ever and I hope you understand my reticence in doing so again.
I am pleased that you have now put in place the agreement that anyone booking through you and YOR will not have this problem as I would hate anyone to go through what my daughter has.

We wait to see logicbob, lets hope we get the money back soon from YOR as to be honest we have had just about enough of all this now.

If this has put a bad credit rating on my daughters profile I will be very, very cross indeed. She is a Masters graduate just trying to get started in her chosen career as well as being classified as disabled she really doesn't need this worry and stress.

Algarvedrive every time. No standing at a desk; sit at the coffee shop. ALways seem to be new or newish cars always spotless.

LJ, I am sure Steen is on the case now and will follow it through. He has re-payed the two bookings and promised to reimburse your daughter for any expenses or interest incurred. I bet you would not get that from any of the major rental companies.
