Train journey from Faro airport to Lisbon

Morning all.
We're flying into Faro in August and hoping to spend a few days in Lisbon first before coming back down to CVO as our accommodation isn't immediately available. Car hire seems very expensive this time (we need an automatic) and, as we don't generally make much use of the car when we get to CVO, possibly a waste of money.

I've looked into the train journey from Faro to Lisbon and this seems feasible and fairly reasonable. I'd like to know if anyone has experience of getting the train to Lisbon straight after a flight to Faro? We'll have luggage for 2 weeks plus 2 kids (who by then will be 9 and nearly 6). Is it too much of a hike?

Not taken the train from Faro, you may have to get a taxi or bus to Tunes, estimate possibly 30 euros by taxi based on taxis to Cvo, If you do that, get the Omega train to Lisbon, fabulous, they run dead on time, but don't eat the food it's rubbish, I think we paid 17 euros return but that was four years ago, it's dead cheap whatever.

I too need an automatic and it costs an arm and a leg. Have a good time

The high speed pendular trains take about 21/2 hrs to get to Lisbon.
Fantastic views as you cross the tagus bridge.
It is very comfortable but i think you would find it difficult to stow a lot of luggage.
You get a complimetary drink , earphones for the TV ( portuguese ) and music channels.
The Express ( only a few euros less for first class )is less comfortable , crowded and takes longer ).
The Portuguese rail website has an english section and is easy to navigate and book tickets etc.

As you know you will have to get from the Airport to the main station at Faro.

Is there a left luggage or lockers at Faro rail station. Ask on tripadvisor as there are alot of people on that forum with plenty of local knowledge.
Just take enough luggage for a few days in Lisbon then if you can leave the rest at the railway station.

Thanks for your advice everyone. Looks like I may need to cut down on the packing - I'll just leave my husband's clothes at home!

I've done FARO to LAGOS several times...

At the airport you can get straight on an EVA bus right outside, or get a taxi to the station. The bus is about 1,20 euros each, so a taxi would only cost about double that and be a lot quicker.

At FARO station, you then get the ordinary 'slow train' headed for Albufeira, Poertimao etc, but before these it stops at TUNES. This is where you get the high speed train to LISBOA. Never done that leg of the journey myself, but it's meant to be an experience.

Only just read your Feb mail this so sorry if I'm too late.
My wife and I have been regular visitors to Carvoeiro over the last few years and will be there again over Christmas.
Car hire might still be an option.
I would respectfully suggest you book well in advance on the web from the UK.
Then have a look at the web site below:

They cover the insurance element of many car hire deals that seem great but when "all" the insurance is paid seem not so good at all.
