Car Hire
Steen knew about it some time ago - I can't see how it has taken so long to sort out to be honest. From an outsider's point of view I would have probably sued someone by now - the car hire companies are quick enough to take money from people when they want to - so they should be equally as quick to return it.
It may not have been Steen's fault and he may have done his best to sort it out, but this has been going on for over 6 months and it should have been easy enough to sort out some time ago.
I don't feel that LJ ought to be grateful for her daughter's money being returned that was taken from her illegally in the first place

If this was paid for by a CREDIT card then I don't understand why there has been a delay. You normally go back to the credit card company, tell them you have not authorised the transaction and request them to use Charge Back to recover the money. There is then a time limit in which they do this. The onus is then on the car hire company to prove the validity of the charge but the credit card agreements are on your side.We have taken advise on this matter and had given the companies time to return the money, if nothing had happened after this we were going to court.
Was the problem caused by signing a blank credit card slip with the other hire company and that the credit card company are therefore refusing to get involved? If so I would still argue that the transaction was unauthorised if it was not for a service that was agreed in advance. I think the credit card company should have refunded the charge.

We contacted the credit card company and they put it into dispute, they then handed it to their fraud dept. who looked into it, after 3 months they got back to say that as the car hire company told them they had paid it back to my daughter, even tho' they hadn't and they could see that they hadn't, they gave my daughter until 29th Jan to get back in touch with the car hire company and get the money back herself - in other words they were totally useless really - after that date they would then put the money back onto her card and it would then start accruing interest again!!!
See this wikipedia article for a good description of how chargeback works and what it covers:

The original post where my ex was charged several hundred pounds was NOT put on the credit card he had given when he hired the car, but on another credit card that he had not given to Sixt for several years. According to the credit card companies, they are happy to put whatever a car hire company says is appropriate onto any card that is still valid. And if the card is not valid, then they will chase you for payment, irrespective of whether the claim is correct.
So be aware that any old credit cards that you no longer use MAY be having money put on them without you being aware.
