Cheap restaurants

Post by dj sull »

After reading a few discussions on here about the price hike in many restaurants, could anyone give suggestions on places that are still reasonably priced but are still good. Obviously there are cheap places to eat in Carvoeiro but I'm looking for restaurants that offer good value for money rather than being cheap because there's a chance you'll catch a mild form of dysentery. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

P.S. I'm sorry to the Cranes if there is already a thread on this subject but I haven't got time to search through every discussion ever had since the beginning of this site.

Stop being so combatative Dan!

What is your budget? On the Rua du Farol you will get a main course + wine for between 15-20 euros a head at the likes of A Gale' et al

Ele & ela had a wonderfull three course dinner last week. And we decided to go for that.
We got bread, butter, olives etc, a very nice onion soup as a main dish we had a grilled salmon with tarragon sauce and for dessert a poached peach with mascarpone and ice cream!
Price: 18 euro maybe it is not the cheapest but the presentation, fresh vegetables and roasted baby potatoes were very good! for us it is the best place in terms of quality and price!

We like to go to the chicken place aswell but that is realy low budget and the atmosphere is not so nice. Just if you want something quick it is ok. its called o escontadinho i believe.

I'd give Chicken George a miss, its swamped with mosquitos and maybe cheap if there are only 2 of you, but we went with a party of 9 and they gave us so little chicken/chips and cost us over 12 euro a head! What a rip off. Im sure youd get a good meal for that anywhere in Carvoeiro and not be eaten alive. I didnt like it (hard to believe with this review!)

I like "Rafaiol`s wich you can find on the road to the lighthouse next to the entrance to Rocha Brava. Oswaldo told me last week that he will open again the
O ´Rafaiol wich is situated at the beginning of Rua do Barranco. The concept will not be the same as it is near Rocha Brava. They only want to offer cheaper dishes: two different starters, two plain main courses (BBQ) and only a few desserts. He did not know exactly the date but I think it might be open during the easter holidays.

O Nunos directions: Take the Lagoa road to the lights before the Inter Marche. turn right follow the road round to the left about half a mile on the right.
Nuno is front of house and his wife Francisca is the chef. She has that great Portuguese talent for using lots of herbs to make things tasty but not overpowered.
Sorry for the delay in replying.
Best wishes,
Chas.

dj, it's at Areias Dos Moinhos.
If you take Estrala do Farol out of CVO and take the first turning on the left about 100yds past A Rede, follow this past the Flintstones apartments until you get to a junction with an island, turn right, then first left and there you are.
