I also think that the square will be a big improvement when it is all finished, I am looking forward to seeing the finished article.

Suppose Im just feeling nostalgic. I think Sanreen's idea of a park & ride is a very good one.

Im just trying to figure out how it will look when finished..with an avenue of trees through the middle?
I used to like sitting on the sea wall and do some 'people watching' and 9 times out of 10 would find someone to talk to :)

But Im wondering how the traffic flow will be and where it will go? Will the out road remain the in out road? or will the in road traffic turn at the road of the post office? Will the road up past the Ice cream parlour become pedestrianised?
I wanna know a lot don't I? :)
p.s. I also like the idea (Sanreen's again) of more flower tubs and hanging baskets..would look lovely

Let's hope the finished product is good, flower tubs, benches and no silly fair in the summer!

What's wrong with the fair? The kids love it. :)

Gives it a certain 'Southend feel' and drives me potty when I want to have a meal in the square on a summer's evening

Was in Carvoeiro yesterday lots of work going on with local people upbeat and positive and trying to get as much as possible completed before season starts. Spent some time in Monte Dourado all was looking well, lots of people taking advantage of the weather sitting round the pools 8)

I think they have a limited number of builders who can lay the cobble stones and they all seem to be busy with re-laying the cobbles on the out-road after the cables for the new street lamps were put in place.

Given that the deadline for the square (end of March) has now passed and other projects like the out-road lighting have already been kicked off, it is anybodies guess how much the builder has over-extended himself with the proposed deadlines. :(

Sure I saw 9th April for the square somewhere on here the other week but can't find it! However, it looks pretty close and until we have all seen it and sampled it, bit early to call I think.

Any chance you could take a few photo's, Nigel, I'm missing seeing progress. As we left, the main problem was not being able to lay the red brick road (makes a change from yellow) because of trucks removing debris from the demolished toilets. When that's down, at least the square close to the retaurants will look finished.

I was down there earlier today and thought of taking a photo to update you Barry, but I'm afraid it doesn't "look" like progress. Actually they've started on the red stones, but there's still a lot of trucks and debris around. The in-road is a complete mess and toally shut, but I saw them dump large quantities of extra large calcadas to pave the road from the square all the way to the post office.
