Restaurants near to Caneiros Beach

Post by marcoxl5 »

Hi Everybody. It is 5 gloriously short weeks 'til I come to the Algarve for the first time. We were due to stay in the Sesmarias area but recently the villa has had to be changed to one that is 1km from Caneiros beach ( looking at it ). Can anyone please tell me what decent restaurants / supermarkets there are that are fairly local and ( anything else that can whet my tastebuds please ). Thanks very much.

HI Mark,

Whereabouts are you staying. Caneiros beach is only a few minutes drive from Sesmarias.

Caneiros is about 1km about Sesmarias. There is a great beach restaurant at Caneiros beach itself. Also various restaurants in Sesmarias and on the road to ferragudo. There is a small supermarket in Sesmarias that will sell you all that you need but if you have transport you may prefer to travel to one of the main supermarkets in Lagoa, or Intermarche between Lagoa and Carvoeiro, where you will buy things a lot cheaper.
Hope you enjoy your trip

Hi. Thanks very much for your replies. The directions I have been given are :-

'large water tower on left. Go straight across mini roundabout past 2 bars on right. Continue straight for Ferragudo and Estombar for 2 km's. When reaching roundabout take 2nd exit then 1st right about 300m into Boa Nova.'

Hope this helps because it means nothing to me. If it does can anybody name any please so that I instantly know what I am looking for.
Thanks very much again,
Mark

Sesmarias is on road to Caneiros (about 3k away) and sounds like your new villa is nearer. For eating our near by, best places are the 'secret' fish resteraunt on beach itself.....(apparently hanging offence mentioning name on here but any taxi driver will happily take you!), Island Cafe towards sesmarias (international type food). Pizza place on corner in Sesmarias (near water tower) is always busy but not eaten there. Failing that Ferragudo (fish) or Carvoeiro itself.

Thanks very much. That's a great start. We intend to eat out out every lunch and dinner and trying different ones for each so that is a great start.

We've often enjoyed a sardine lunch at the cafe/restaurant on Pintadinho beach. This is down a turning off the road from Sesmarias to Ferragudo - not far beyond Caneiros Beach. It Is signposted "Praia do Pintadinho" and "Praia do Molho". Pintadinho is a very accessible beach as it has no steps! Just be warned that the cafe is very popular with locals on Sunday lunchtimes. There is also a cafe/restuarant at the adjacent Praia do Molho - but we have never actually tried it. These two beaches are either side of the long breakwater that forms the eastern side of Portimao harbour.
Enjoy your first holiday here :)

Sesmarias is lovely & has a few bars & restaurants, Ferragudo the next town along the sea road is definitely worth exploring, it is very quaint & has lots of very good restaurants. Either way you will need to drive. I'm sure you will have a fabulous holiday. :D

Thanks everybody. Particularly looking forward to it now. 4 and a half weeks suddenly feels a heck of a lot longer.

Marco,
The Italian restaurant by the Water Tower is called Donatos.
It is nice but does get busy.
I have previously posted about a restaurant around the corner from Carvoeiro Tennis club,
called the Rodrizio. a meat eaters paradise. beef, chicken, lamb all carved at the table.
As much as you can eat for around 18.00 Euros
