New Highway

Post by biffa »

Well, it's open!!

The highway opened yesterday and now runs right through to Lagos. Well -not exactly - in fact it runs right past Lagos and unless you get off it at the turning signposted to Odeaxere then you will find yourself at the end of the highway just past the small village of Bensafrim on the road to Aljezur and then you have a 9 km trip back down to Lagos!

It is great though, with some wonderful "new" views on the Lagoa to Portimao stretch over the river Arade.

Well done the road builders getting it ready exactly on time.

By the way, the Lagos exits should only be ready by July I hear

That is very good news indeed Biffa. Do you know any web sites that show the new motorway on a map?

Hi Biffa, I believe the old exit for Carvoeiro is now marked junction 7, could you please tell me the town/village name to look out for at junction 7. somebody also mentioned that it's not the IP1 anymore and now the A22, is that right?

Not sure what you mean by the old exit. I also am not sure if it is exit 7 for Lagoa but the exit is clearly marked Lagoa and Silves and then also Carvoeiro.

You can either take Lagoa Norte exit which takes you into Lagoa itself or stay on and leave at Lagoa Sul which brings you onto the Lagoa-Portimao road just close to what was the Restaurant La Romance and is now the Britsh School building. That is the best for Carvoeiro really and is signposted thus.

Does this make sense?!

Thanks Biffa, sorry for the confusion, by the "old exit" I mean the exit that will take you past the International School if your coming from the airport and was the end of the motorway until March this year. :(

OK

You could be right on Exit 7 as the turn off to Lagoa is Exit 6 and of course the road IS now called the A22. This may be a prelude to making it a toll road!

If and when a new road map comes out with the newer roads on it, would someone from the village be kind enough to send me one?

I can pay you either by cheque via Royal Mail or in person when we come over for Christmas.

Hi Michael, I have directions using the old exit and new and the old one's best as there is no traffic on the 125 anymore (you know who I am and will email later.)
