Kteee, do you know at what point they are stopping the work. Do we assume that traffic will be able to come down the in road, cross in front of the off-licence, and return up a completed out road? Otherwise we will have the current mix of traffic and people in the middle of the square.

As far as I know they are finishing what they are doing now then stopping, so I would guess both roads will be open as normal for the summer but it is third hand news!!

Well, third hand is better than nothing. Hope the moderators don't mind me going off topic, but how's the back? Miss seeing Nick around the village for regular updates. PM me if you don't want to share.

Does anyone know what has happened to the Tourist Office that was knocked down at the start of all the work? It does not look like it has been rebuilt. Perhaps it has moved elsewhere?

Must admit, those photographs on a previous posting were most helpful.

They're currently putting up a new wooden tourist office in exactly the same place as the old one.

A lot of the locals & bar owners are referring to those granite blocks (which are just the right height to catch you on the shins & trip you up) as tomb or grave stones & actually that's just what they look like. God know's what they were thinking when they thought they'd be a good idea, let alone an attractive one. :(

Are the 'grave stones' a permanent feature? I thought they were a temporary measure until the wrok was completed.

They are fixed into the paving by steel rods so they are hardly temporary.

They have to be otherwise cars will start to park on the pavemnents again defeating the purpose of narrowing the road.
I have great sympathy for the less mobile of families with buggies who are forced into the road by inconsiderate drivers who park badly.
Blocks have already been damaged by cars and trucks mounting the pavements.

Perhaps they serve a dual purpose - they are also seats.

But without them all you drivers would be parking on the pavements again.

They could have put a bit more thought into the aesthetic of it. Surely there are other things that will stop "us" drivers from mounting the pavement that don't look quite so plain (or even morbid).

(I resent being thrown in the same pot with the delivery people, btw - my wheels stay off the pavement unless absolutely inevitable or my girlfriend is driving :!:)
