Dongles
Dongles
Hi
We will be out in CVO for 4 weeks this summer and have just bought a notebook so we can keep up with emails etc from our business. We therefore need to purchase a dongle to use with it.
I have tried searhing for KANGURU but sadly my Portuguese is not up to translating the site. Therefore does anyone know where I can buy one from, preferably Pay as You Go and can we do this in cash or via our UK bank or do we need a PT bank account?
Also what documentation will we need to take with us?
Many thanks
Madge

Re: Dongles
Madge, why start two Dongle topics?
Re: Dongles
Vodaphone is just as good, you can buy one at their shop at the airport, at Algarve Shopping and at the Lagoa shop.
I get a reasonable signal in Carvoeiro , less so at peak times but this would apply to all networks.

Re: Dongles
Vodafone ones (as said above) are fine. The shop in Guia tried to get my UK dongle to work with a portuguese sim, but it just would not work for some reason. They were really helpful though and for no charge set the netbook up for me.
Re: Dongles
Madge - I put this on your other thread but here it is again in case you missed it.
I bought one on my last trip - very easy to use and you can use it anywhere such as in the airport if the flight is delayed.
I bought mine in The Algarve Shopping Centre. There are several shops for the various companies but I used Optimus as their coverage is excellent. I took in my laptop and they set the whole thing up for me and were very helpful. Cost was 59 Euros which included 10 Euros of credit.
The phone shops are onthe ground floor at the oposite end to the cinema.
Good luck.

Thank you all for your help!
Re: Dongles
Vodafone - they work fine - but as with most of these if u don't top it up every 3 months they get cancelled and u hav to pay again for a new one . So we try and top it up each time we go over - can do it at ATM 's - but if you are not a frequent visitor then can get expensive
Re: Dongles
If you have a dongle , you can use it if it is unlocked for any service provider. You just have to buy the sim card and Pay As You Go service from a Portugual provider such as Vodaphone, TMN, or Optimus (Kangaru). It will save you the price of buying a new dongle. Plus your unlocked dongle can be used anywhere in the world.
If you require to unlock your dongle you can do it online for 15 euros at this site: http://www.dc-unlocker.com/
The Pay As You Go service can be purchased for various periods of time. If you add on service prior to the period expiring, your broadband usage gets carried over just like your cellphone (mobile) service. .
