The new square
Re: The new square
Great photos will see for ourselves on sunday night, still find it hard to believe that the traffic will return to its old route past Soares, but the blocks are there so maybe ?
The " out " road " looks really good, we will no longer have to climb over cars to walk along the pavements.

Agree, lovely piccies, hope all goes well with the proper opening.
A nice seat somehere in the area would I agree be beneficial.

Re: The new square
Took a photo of the area in front of Soares, since it does still look like a usable road linking in with out. They are close to finishing both the out road and the cut through, so I guess we will find out soon. Agree with SJ that some seating would be good, but we have the plant tubs, so who knows.

Re: The new square
I doubt that buses and delivery wagons would be able to turn sharp enough to pass directly in front of Soares.
Re: The new square
well I for one think it looks very nice and am looking forward to seeing it in 3 weeks, its done now so think everyone should just accept that, as I always say I am very lucky to go out as often as I do, and think the old out Road looks great
Re: The new square
I have the same concerns, snowytheboy, but if the alternative is the current arrangement then I have even more concern. The "runway" that runs from Smilers to the beach access looks pedestrian, but has vehicles crossing it. People do just wander across the vehicle crossing. As I said before we will find out when traffic can again use the out street. This could take a bit longer than I thought, since they now seem to be extending the roadworks past the narrowed bit.
Re: The new square
Well I'm sorry but I don't like the runway & I don't think much of those piddly little topiaried trees (are they orange trees?), I was hoping for some shady jacarandas or similar
. I suppose if they develop in the same way as the ones in Lagos they'll be lovely in the end, but not if they keep them pruned into little balls, or big balls come to that - 'orrible.

I am with you blue! Whoever designed this was either ..... or ..... ! The square really looks horrible, even after removing the tomb stones.blue wrote:Well I'm sorry but I don't like the runway & I don't think much of those piddly little topiaried trees (are they orange trees?), I was hoping for some shady jacarandas or similar.

Re: The new square
I agree LJ, but a few benches to sit on when you are tired (or had too many glasses of rose) would be nice.

Re: The new square
That I also agree with tricky, I just wish people would stop moaning and going on about the square, we will all get used to it whether you like it or not, you are not going to change the square by moaning on and on here, just enjoy the village it hasn't changed just because they wanted to improve the square and beach area, I applaud them for doing something about it and am happy to let it develop over the coming months and years and just enjoy the area.
Rant over...... sorry

Re: The new square
Hear Hear LJ. I was a first time visitor in May. Back then there was loads of fencing, lorries and no trees. However I will be back because I saw the village for what it was, a place with character and soul not like these purpose built resorts that could be anywhere in the world ( Praia da Rocha, Praia do Vau etc. ) As the works are developing I only become more and more eager to return

Re: The new square
I guess some people are just more easily pleased than others
. But I will endeavour to see the square through rose tinted glasses from now on. Actually scrap that I think instead I shall endeavour to see the the square through a rose filled glass from now on.
Re: The new square
The Rose' theme seems to be recurring, Blue. What a good idea for you, me and LJ to test the square after a few
