Prices

Most restaurants around Carvoeiro are offering lunch menus at set prices, so to say that they aren't trying is a bit of a generalisation. In my mind, the restaurants in the square are doing what they have always done: getting away with high prices because of their location. If the prices are high, don't go there. You can get an equally enjoyable meal at half the price in other places in the village.

I agree Ditzy....I was shocked at the price charged at O Patio for quite a simple meal!

Ive had a good lunch at Doce (think Ive spelt that right?) on the out road...a great burger /salad & milk shake for much cheaper..they also do lovely toasties

O Patio has been covered on this site numerous times over the years and always the same old chestnut comes up 'Price'.

The point regarding its location is the most valid one - it is in the best position in the village - during the summer. We are regulars there and ate there last Saturday and had a first class meal - Monkfish Rice, bottle of white wine, a pudding, 2 coffees and a Brandy on the house - all for the princely sum of €62. The service is as it always is (for us) efficient and prompt - couldn't fault it. On average we eat there once a month and have had one or two mediocre meals and on the one occasion we had a bad meal - they offered to provide a fresh meal or not charge.

Expensive - yes- value for money and the scenery/ambiance - excellent.

We've just returned from yet another fab 2 week break, & didn't notice any huge increases in our regular eating places, but I noticed that the supermarket shopping seemed to cost more, as did petrol this year. Like a lot of people using this forum, we treated ourselves to some meals costing 50-60 Euros, but also ate at local restaurants for less than 20 euros. (including wine & beer). Am planning on doing proper restaurant reviews on the restaurant site when I've unpacked & done the washing

As we have a 3yr old we don't really get to drink out at night so have the advantage of stocking up on the local wines for the terrace at night. Having said that, we did have some cocktails at our pool bar (QDP) they were about 5 euros which seems pretty reasonable, especially as this year they were using bigger glasses

Him indoors took advantage of the golf deals at Vale de Milho. Faro airport was ridiculously expensive. 3 euros for a can of orange fanta!

If you have time at faro use the cafe at the top of the stairs above arrivals coffee 80cents less than those on the ground floor.

Yes you're right shanagarry..and I believe O Patio is the oldest restaurant in Carvoeiro...
I was on a bit of a budget at the time and when I got the bill of 34 euros just for me I was a bit startled. Yes it does have a very good ambience and I guess thats half of what we are paying for

Have to say I never went back.
When I go to Algarve for long stays I do have to budget a bit and like to go 'inland' to Lagoa or Silves......or go to pastelarias where the Portuguese eat and usually get a tasty cheaper meal

Speaking of which, I was told the cafe in Lagoa park has gone? Is this true? If so I will miss that place, as Ive often gone there for a spot of lunch

Ellie - we wouldn't be eating in O Patio anymore than we do now - not unless the Euro Millions came up

I believe there is a wide enough range of good eating places in and around Cvo to suit every purse and palate. In our case we have a preferred range (both price and quality) but every so often we take the 'leap of faith' and find another to add to the range. Because it is easier to go back to tried and trusted establishments - we are probably missing on on some very good places - which someday, hopefully we will get around to trying.

I don't know the cafe in Lagoa park you referred to

Bristol si, you say you're just back from 2 weeks in Corfu after going to Cvo for 8 years. We have been to Cvo about 5 times now, not 5 years running though. I feel that its nice to go somewhere different for a change thats why we went east of faro to tavira this year. We rented a penthouse there, with garden on the roof and had many barbeques up there. It was wonderful and we came home with a lot of euros for once instead of being down to our last cent.

Our biggest spend was on petrol this year. Friends of ours were holidaying in Praia da Rocha so we visited them a couple of times,but I have to say I'm not a great fan of there, there's too much high rise for our liking but we're all different in what we like................each to their own

I think the cafe in Lagoa may have changed hands. The park now looks a lot better they have done a good job there if we are talking about the same place even a lot easier to park the car.

Is this the cafe with the different coloured chairs - pink, blue yellow, on the park with the bandstand, round the corner from Cozequipa? If so I hope it hasn't closed down, spent many a pleasant lunchtime there. Haven't been to Lagoa in ages, well except for the party shop, I used to like having a little wander round the town.

Its the park as you walk from the entrance, past the petrol station, Gary..as Blue says with the bandstand?
I hope you are right, as I love sitting there and watching the world go by...usually with a sarnie and cold drink

Then I stroll up to the tiny park which has the 'Nossa Senhora' statue and simply sit & relax..and look up at the apartment where we used to live and then wonder why we ever came back to UK

We were in the park last week and had a coffee and a pastel de nata in the cafe and very nice it was too, we'll be there again this week Ellie and I'll report back.....we also had a walk by the Nossa Senhora...thought of you then!

Was the cafe/restaurant called century21 or something like that if so this one has changed but you can still sit outside and watch the world go by. Sanreen if you go from CVO to Lagoa when you reach Lagoa you come acroos that funny road system sort of roundabout with traffic lights and a garage opposite. Just basically go straight ahead and you cant miss it.
