Best restaurant for a big question?
Best restaurant for a big question?
Hi all,
I'm visiting carvoeiro for the first time real soon with my girlfriend (Aug 2009) and her family.
There's a certain question i'd like to ask my girlfriend. Never having been there before, I'd like a restaurant with the ideal setting (is there a restaurant with a beautiful view, atmosphere, location and service?). Cost is not the issue, but the moment is. Can anyone advise me as to restaurants to go for?
Thanks to anyone with helpful feedback - it's important and I really appreciate your help.
Best regards,
Mike

Re: Best restaurant for a big question?
Although there are some great restaurants in CVO I can't think of one that I have eaten in that has a great sea view. There are some beach type restaurants but I don't think that they would be the right atmosphere.
O Farol in Rocha Brava can be very romantic but in August they sometimes have a kids disco by the pool which changes the feel of the place.
La Bella Vita in Clube Atlantico is superb but without the view.
I have never eaten in the Tivioli Mansour Hotel but I know that the hotel has great sea views and so if the restaurant is right then that could be a possibility.
If you take a short drive to Ferragudo the last restaurant on the quay is called O Soeste and the fish there is superb. The al fresco atmosphere is good and the sunset there is a great sight - I think that would be my choice. Tell the waiters your intention and they will set you up at a good table.
Good luck and don't forget to tell us how it goes

Its not in CVO, but what about Hotel Romantik, the views there, are spectacular.
Wherever you go , the moment will be.
Also what about Boneca bar down in the grotto below Algar Seco, tell them beforehand. To me its a lovely romantic place when the light goes down and you can peek through the cliff mounds at the boats as they go sailing past and watch the stars in the glorious clear night skies.
That place at night has always been a romantic spot for us.
You could get someone from one of the hotels, or somewhere, to pack you a beautiful picnic hamper, complete with champers, the lot and take it to a secluded beach ,with rugs and candles and wow her that way. Drop the ring in her champers or on a strawberry or something , quiet beautiful music playing from your i pod. God it would be lovely.
Whatever, wherever it will be magic.
Good luck.

Re: Best restaurant for a big question?
I agree about A Boneca at Algar Seco. I think it has by far the best location & the food is very good too. I'm going there this Friday & I'm really looking forward to it.
Re: Best restaurant for a big question?
Don't think you can go too wrong with Rei Das Prais already mentioned. Great food, amazing views across the bay to Lagos if you get a table around Sunset, and the beach is good place for a quiet walk/drink if you would rather not be in full view of everyone.
Good luck.....I also popped question in CVO but was more of a spur of the moment thing after a silly amount of vodka and orange!

Re: Best restaurant for a big question?
OK, http://www.reidaspraias.com looks very nice.
Do you know how long it would take to get there in a taxi from Carvoeiro? Any idea where I can find a menu, prices etc?
A table on the beach out front would be perfect, so i'll reserve very soon.
Thanks again all for your help!

Mike.

Re: Best restaurant for a big question?
Its no more than 10 mins taxi from centre of Carvoeiro and around 10 Euros.
As for menu not sure whether there is a sample on website but basically its pretty much simply cooked fish all the way apart from the odd Chicken dish. Can reccomend the clams, the baked sea bass (in salt) and the Cataplana (fish stew) and both pretty good value for the quality compared to some other places.
If you really want to push the boat out then the giant red tiger prawns are the speciality. Beware though they actually cost more per KG than lobster, and its always a shock when you get the bill and realise how heavy 'a couple of prawns' are! However they taste amazing and I actually think better than lobster.
Also they only take cash! (had to get a taxi to cash point in Ferragudo before since always forget).

Re: Best restaurant for a big question?
I have consulted the current Mrs Wallis, and she says no where in Carvoeiro...all too noisy.
She would yield to my blandisments at O Velho in Porches, very tastefully old Portuguese with good food and discrete service,
Or maybe Boa Vida at Clube Atlantico, excellent food, and if you whisper in their ear....they do the romantic Italiano very well

Re: Best restaurant for a big question?
I think the view is important on such an occasion, you want the location to be memorable. Unfortunately though we like many of the restaurants in Carvoeiro none of the best ones have a beautiful view. The restaurant with the best view in Carvoeiro is O Boteco up the steep hill to the right of Carvoeiro beach as you look at the sea, sadly the food is really disappointing & the staff a bit dour but if you only have eyes for each other it might not matter, after that A Boneca down the steps at Algar Seco would probably be the best location, don't know about the food though. So I think if it were me I would choose Rei das Praias at the Caneirous beach. You must book certainly in August & as mentioned make sure you're there for the sunset.
Good luck! Let us know how it goes.

Re: Best restaurant for a big question?
I have to agree with the majority it would be Rei Das Praias at Canieros for me too.
Although how is this for an idea. The restaurant now does breakfast, including smoked salmon and scrambled eggs and full english.
I would love that with a glass of champagne, in a quite restaurant overlooking the almost empty beach (okay you have to go early)
Might make a change from the traditional 'proposal' dinner.

Vila Vita Parc - The Ocean Restaurant.
http://www.vilavitaparc.com/
All the top quality service & food you would expect from a Leading Hotel of the World.
If you are serious about getting serious, take her there - 20 minute cab ride from Carvoeiro. Recommend getting a room for the night too.
