Best restaurant for a big question?

Went there a couple of times in June, impressive. Looking forward to September now

We stayed opposite Vilavita once and got a bit pee'd off with the security, everywhere you went there were guys in uniform with radios. I used to walk down to the beach each night and could guarantee I would be followed. Most annoying. That was until they caught someone trying to get into our apartment.

Can you recommend any other hotels in the carvoeiro area that are really lovely? Preferably somewhere with a great setting?

This place is amazing, it has a cliff top view and is very smart but very expensive. It is outside of Carvoeiro on the cliff between Benagil and Albandeira beach

Rooms from around € 250 per night and excellent food in the Morgadinho restaurant overlooking the sea.

Just checked and they have August availability.

Thanks to all of you for your recent help. The ring has been bought, I have a cover story for being emotional and strange over the next couple of weeks, she has no idea and all I have to do now is decide between a restaurant somewhere special and a quiet champagne picnic for 2 on a quiet part of a beach. So... 2 questions:

1. We are there self catering and I don't know the area, so are there supermarkets or other places where I can obtain a lovely picnic hamper type thing to take away if i decide on the beach option?

2. I'd like to treat her to a few things on the day as part of a build up. Apart from the alba spa, are there further places (e.g. Spa or other) locally where she can have a day of fun, smiles and pampering?

Good luck in finding a quiet part of the beach, they're heaving at the moment & soon the Lisbon dwellers will be here! I'd go for the restaurant.

Glad to hear romance is not dead. Try Villa Domillu for a day of indulgence. They have a wonderful spa and treatments including chocolate body wraps, roses scrubs etc. All beautiful and a salt water heated pool, small but neat. The hotel is beautiful and the rooms very pretty. Dinner and lunches are good and can be tailored to your needs. Then find a quiet secluded beach with all the special bits for romance and do not forget the citrenella candles for a nice smell and to rid yourselves of midges etc. Get some rose petals as well to throw on the rug for added romance. The supermarkets have everytthing you will need, but you could ask one of the better hotels what you need and they will provide it for you.Tivoli Mansoor will do it and no doubt so would Villa Domillu.
Beau Vista golf club, also have a great indoor heated pool and spa treatments and the club house does lunches and dinners and again will tailor for your needs and would also do a hamper, just checked with them re this.

Watch out for Villa Domilu, friends of mine stayed there recently and have before. This time not good.

Had lunch at Vila Joya on Monday and the tasting menu with a few surprise courses is only 79Euro per head so where 300Euro comes from I do not know. If you want a fantastic lunch in wonderfull surroundings to pop the question then this is the place to go!

There is an alternative though! You could whisk her off to Hotel Penha Longha just outside Sintra and have dinner in Arola thier fantastic restaurant (the brigade came from the Arts in Barcelona). It is an easy two hour plus drive but is a really good 5 star hotel and the restaurant is very romantic.

Pickwick, I got the prices from the restuarant itself and followed it up by an aqauaintance who has eaten there a few times. I do realise some of their menius are more reasonable, but I suppose its a case of what you choose to eat and drink. The taster menu sounds very good value, I bet it was a glorious meal.
