The new square

I agree with Gary I like the new square, you can't stay in the past forever, the new square will, hopefully attract more families and people to it, which can be only good for all the bars and restaurants around...

There have been so many on this thread who just seem to enjoy being so critical and downbeat about this whole thing, whatever makes you think that the local people want to know what a bunch of Brits think of their new square, the people I have spoken to about it (locals and businesses near the square) are all happy with the new look and the feel of the place again, they feel it has given a new lift to the town so stop knocking what you can not change and accept it for goodness sake.....

and it is starting to quieten down on the roads and beaches, but the weather is still lovely.

the people I have spoken to about it (locals and businesses near the square) are all happy with the new look - I am happy if they do, I'm sure they see it as progress and dynamic etc....many tourists that visit the town with pockets full of Euro may not.

All the guests that have visited us this year have all said the square has lost its charm.

I should imagine many people thought the big ugly modern apartments right on the the square were progress and dynamic for the town whenever they were built.....

I also like most of the new square, there a few things still to be 'tweaked' but as has been stated several times the work was halted to allow the holiday season to go ahead with minimum disruption and is due to be restarted Oct/Nov time. Everyone will have their opinion thats for sure but at least wait til you see it first! I have to say I never liked the uncomfortable circular seat thing that used to be in the centre of the old square, imho it was neither useful nor ornamental

I rather liked the circular seat in the middle of the square and I'll tell you why......I made friends with people sitting there, both locals and Brits and often had a good laugh with them (I thought it quite cosy)
and although I haven't seen the new look yet (Im having doubts about it though)....Im curious to know why Blue said we would get dizzy sitting on the benches? ......are they 'high'?
Oh and just a little p.s. to my friend Lesley..we are all entitled to our opinion on this forum...whether we agree or not....

Tell you what I didn't like about the circular seat thing Ellie, the back seemed to be at a funny angle I couldn't sit back and also my little legs dangled - not an attractive look but then maybe you have longer legs than me Ellie!! I also found it not to be aesthetically pleasing I also enjoy chatting to friends old and new but when I'm sitting like Quasi-modo I don't feel I'm at my best. The benches are normal height think Blue was refering to traffic going by. Keep an open mind my dear you might be pleasantly surprised when you are actually enjoying the usual lovely backdrop of the sea and cliffs of Carvoeiro I actually prefer to sit on the sea wall

Well said Gary and Lesley Jean. I agree totally that too many people are being too critical about the square. This thread has got extremely boring and I think it's about time the moderator shut it down. Let's all move on in our lives.

I wonder who you have spoken to Lesley I haven't found one person who is actually a resident of Carvoeiro, Portuguese or ex-pat, that likes the new square, they like the changes to the out road but that's about it.
I'm sorry but we can't all skip around looking through rose tinted glasses, I'm glad for those of you who like the new square, good for you, but I don't see why those of us who don't shouldn't say so, it's just an opinion don't take it to heart. At least you get to enjoy it.

Well Blue , here is one at least 5 months resident of CVO who thinks that the new square and road system is a vast improvement on the gray concrete 1960,s car park that it was.

What was so great about having to walk around cars to get anywhere.

Its not perfect but then nothing ever is.
The in and out roads are 100, times better than they were, what is wrong with them in your opinion?

All that is needed ( and it may happen ) is to move the traffic flow back towards Soares ,this would give us one square instead of it being split into two as it is at the moment.
But then I am sure the "old reactionaries " would find something else they did not like in that.

You still have to dodge cars in the square, it wasn't an either or situation, either the grey concrete carpark or this horrible characterless, styless apparition. Great for you that you like it, personally I don't, is that alright?
