We have always used this route, even before they did the square, avoids traffic and pedestrians

Exactly MC :) Although I should add that most of the GNR are on duty, not just having a good time! Ah now if you REALLY want to complain about traffic, head to the Fatacil

Can't see Smilers & the other snack restaurants appreciating them.
Well they should be used to them, they come this time every year for the Festa de Nossa Senhora de Encarnação
That's good news. Where did they use to pitch up? I only noticed them this year because of driving round the traffic island.

They used to be on the original part of the square or on the parking spaces in front

As someone who doesn't drive into the centre of Carvoeiro (we walk down fom QDP), I must say that the new road layout and parking restrictions were great for the pedestrian. The out road has lovely wide pavements that we could actually walk on - unlike previous years when we constantly played with the traffic, weaving in and out between the cars parked on the pavement.

We liked the modern design of the square as well and much preferred it to the old one.

Last night on the In road opposite Oasis a group was playing.
People in the crowd were dancing and the Portuguese equivalent of the conga took place.
Crowds on both sides of the road with cars passing through ( very slowly ).

This could not have happened last year the pavements would have been full of parked cars NOT people.

I assure you drivers are also doing the conga with their cars on a regular basis.

Regardless of what people think of the square's design, the orientation of the trafic system has to change back before some poor sod gets mowed down outside Sullys by a car coming down that hill too fast to brake.

At least everyone was smiling last night, not going the wrong way, cutting up their fellows, taking the equivalent of spaces reserved for the disabled.

Just maybe there is someone in the Camara who has decided that people come before cars and that eventually many of those who drive in discover that the two things at the end of their legs are for walking on not just for pressing pedals.

As for the road down for Monte CVO a few speed bumps would solve the problem.

And those folk would get mowed down due to the fact they are standing in the middle of the road NOT because the car would be travelling too fast....

Am I correct in thinking that the two cars in the inset should NOT be coming down this road?

That road is now down only - you have to go up past the post office then take a sharp right throught he Cvo Clube bit to get to the top of Monte Cvo.

If you look again at the inset pic. you will see the 'no entry' sign preventing cars going up the hill. There is also a 'no right turn' sign visible for cars coming down the 'in' road to prevent them turning right and going up the hill.
