Re: The new square
I was over a couple of weeks ago and I must say I like the new design, the only thing I woukd change is to replace the small shrubs in the pots with bigger trees to create a shaded area to sit,or even erect a canopy (not one covered with advertising) then I think more people would use the area during the day rather than it becoming just a roundabout. At the moment the only way to get any shade from the sun is to go into one of the bars to buy a drink.

There is if you just want to sit in the shade and not have a drink.tjthedj wrote:and is there a problem with that? Not in my book anyway.

There was no shade in the square before the alterations, so on that front nothing has changed!

Re: The new square
I know there was no shade before, but I thought the alterations where to improve the square and in my opinion to have a shady area to sit would improve it.
tjthedj sometimes people want to just sit and not have to go and buy a drink to get out of the sun.

Re: The new square
Got back from CVO on Sunday. I thought the changes to the square and in/out roads were great. I've been going to CVO for 20 years now and as quaint as the old square may have been the number of people visiting has rocketed. The traffic had become a nightmare and dangerous, and the changes to the roads are a marked improvement.

Re: The new square
Well, having seen it 'live' now I have to say I think it's a big improvement. The turning should be made wider to allow buses to get round it without having to reverse now and then, and some shade over the many seats would be a good idea, but overall, it's OK.
Re: The new square
Just returned from lovely 10 days, the square plus in and out roads are a big improvement and much more 'pedestrian friendly'. But surely they could have found something far more attractive and 'in keeping' with the area than the masses of 'modern' silver posts?? Some seats with backs would be nice rather than just the benches?Michael Crane wrote:Well, having seen it 'live' now I have to say I think it's a big improvement. Re: The new square
I hate the refurbishment, it looks like a fairground. The only beneficiaries as far as I can see are the Dutch proprietors of the Oasis.

Re: The new square
and dont forget the GNR- Parking tickets.
I parked by mistake in one of the hire companies slots above the pottery shop.
When I came back A hired car was parked behind to block me in.
People are not fully aware of the park & ride facility at the top of restaurant hill.
Time will tell.

Re: The new square
Much of the traffic chaos in the summer ( blamed on the new square design ) was actually caused by poorly parked or illegally parked cars.
The GNR should ticket more cars , motorists get the message and the village will become even more attractive.
But you are right the park and ride facility should be better publicised.
