Hi we have stayed at Colina Village before and have booked directly with them via e-mail. This was a few years ago and We have lost their e-mail address. Does anyone out there have the e-mail in order for us to book for next year? Mommabarb Ontario Canada

Hi Gambrinus, Our group of 8 thanks you very much for the help. Thanks again. Some of our other friends went to Portugal this February and said they won't go back till the Euro goes down in price) We're from Canada (Ontario) and the friends said the price of food was really expensive, and there were no bargains. Is this true. We normaly rented a apartment and cooked our meals, however after a couple of weeks we found it was cheaper to eat our main meal in restaurants then cook them ourselves befor the Euro came in I Know the Euro has affected the prices as we were in France this year and boy was that expensive.> Thanks for your time and info Mommabarb

Yes mommabarb, we found out this year with our american dollar down
against the euro that it cost us on an average of 12 to 15 percent more
this past February than last year.
We also do a lot of our own cooking because eating out in Caroveiro has
gotten to be a bit pricey.

Mommabarb, I agree the rate of exchange C$ vs. Euro this year made everything more expensive, and that most everything went up in price didn't help either. Everyone needs to make a decent living, but some Carvoeiro places are getting really too pricey. After all in the surrounding areas you can get a good meal or a decent wine for half the money you would spent in Carvoeiro and that's were we went. But ist is such a lovely spot...sigh

dont even think of starting another "its all americas fault" string.

Carvoeiro is expensive, full stop

Throughout the €-zone poeple have cheated. lied and decieved when converting from the old currency to the new one.
A word of advice to those marketing gurus out there, who thought they could make up for the loss of half their clients by doubling their prices:
They are on to you. It sure took long enough, but your window of opportunity for redemption is getting smaller as the season progresses - In case you had not noticed, consumer behaviour is changing - cheap and cheerfull is becoming fashionable.

Thanks Gambrinus, to avoid that type of exchange I didn't reply to "guests" message. As you say, she/he missed the point. We have been wondering when the hospitality industry will "get the message". This winter it has been dead quiet compared to previous years. Not nearly as many German tourists and a lot less other Nationalities too. It seems the British don't feel the "Euro effect" as much, because of their more favourable exchange rate and those wonderfully cheap flights. Here's to Carvoeiro.

I don't believe it is all profiteering by restaurant and bar owners.

The hidden cost of running a legitimate business in Portugal now is horrendous. Social security payments accounts for over 35% of the salary paid - over24% of that being paid by the employer. Full time contracted employees get paid 14 months per year and work 11, gas and other utilities have rocketed in price. Also don't forget that they are all dependent on the tourist season to make enough dosh to last through to the next one. Even before there were so many businesses in Carvoeiro it was always difficult to last the winter.

I think there are two sides to every story and of course do appreciate that some are more guilty than others of price hikes. Expensive restaurant wine is my big gripe! The best move is to vote with your feet (or is it mouth?) and support those that give "value for money" whether they are at the cheap or expensive end of the spectrum.
