Steady now TomUK - people have their preferences and whether it is a holiday resort or not - makes no difference - they are entitled to their opinion.

I believe it is perfectly reasonable to seek out an establishment that affords peace and quiet. It may not be the choice of all or even exist but I suspect that's what the Lady is saying?

Being pedantic about Linemen (Referees assistant) does your 'argument' no good at all. As for the 'uncivilised' remark - I am unsure that grown men 'jumping up and down, punching the air while chanting some moronic remark with accompanying hand gestures' is anywhere near civilised - do you?

Point taken - but my reason for reminding the lady that CVO is a holiday resort was that peaceful and quiet bars are rare in busy holiday resorts.

Jumping up and down when the team you support has just scored the winning goal is not my idea of moronic behaviour just an expression of joy. Although there is a minority who take it to extremes with expletives and 'hand gestures'. I can certainly do without them!

You really did not understand my drift.
1. Linesmen or whover it is that runs up and down the line, complete with whistle either in footie or rugger does use a whistle, I obviously know more about sport than you do. You made that clear.
2. A quiet bar in a resort or elsewhere is a welcome reprieve from a sports bar. From your comment it seems when YOU are on hols you require sports bars only. how selfish is that.
3. I never meant all sports people are uncivilized. Just some of them in pubs. But being friendly and not having to watch a screen for enjoyment is preferable to some.

As a side I only meant it all tongue in cheek, but with the presumtion, oh so wrong of me as you stated, it seems you all prefer sports bars on holiday, I am sooo sorry to have made that mistake.
Regarding me being the life and soul of any party that I may be invited to, well those that do know me will laugh at that comment of yours, cos Dear Tom I really can be.I at least will go to pubs more often that allow people to have a party and talk rather than the banal men jumping up and down so called cheering when a grown man actually gets the ball in the goal. Thought thats what they were paid vast sums of money for anyway.

I guess we (my circle of friends) must be the odd ones out - as we will avoid 'sports bars' like the plague - so where do people like us go for a semi-quiet evening out (anywhere -not just Portugal)? Conundrum - as most bars/pubs need that incessant noise to drag in punters

By semi-quiet I mean good company, plenty of fun and chat - but no TV, Sky TV or anything similar - just social intercourse

THere are some very nice " SPORTS " Free bars in CVO. Talvez, and those next to Maximes or those who need a breal from the TV.

I am with you there Sally Jane on the sports free, child free, smoke free bars would be really nice to sit down in a nice bar/pub with maybe some soft background music, nice atmosphere, good company and nice drinks..... heaven, sounds like the White Hart 35 years ago!!! haha............... even had barmaids with tiny mini skirts....

Messing about apart there are a lot of people who really would rather have a quiet drink and a chat rather than have everyone looking at the TV, no matter how hard you try you do get tempted to look and I hate sport on the TV, sorry....

I like looking at the male bums of the linesmen or whover it is that blows the whistle, but I hate the whistle noise, more so from on the tv as it is so high pitched and insessant. Richard is a referee too.
Glad to hear some of us young and old, like a pub for a drink, and banter, not heads screwed to a tv eminating noise etc, screaming kids, men jumping up and down throwing their beer every which way and cig butts dangling from their mouths, string vests oh hell.
