Bringing Sky from the UK

I have read many comments on this forum regarding the reception of Sky in Portugal using UK equipment but never anything (that I can remember) that explains how using the the account and equipment, apart from the dish and have it operating without too much difficulty can be achieved.

We are moving to Carvoeiro in June and have a full Sky set up (all the channels available) here in the UK. We are going to rent our UK property and always understood from the various postings on here that as long as you kept a UK address - there should not be a problem with Sky - within its reception area.

I am trying to understand what the position would be if the people who rent our UK property sign up for Sky - meaning there would be two Sky accounts at the same address. With the technological sophistication that Sky possess - it wouldn't take them too long to work out there was something 'fishy' going on. Has anybody else encountered this and how have they overcome it?

The new SKY cards will only work in one box and will not accept another card.
Your account has to be in the UK and yes they are now checking up on multiple accounts, we know of people with muliti room accounts who have had problems or have had their account cancelled when calling Sky to register the new cards in their PT box.

I have two accounts at 2 address in the Uk both with there own accounts there also, all you say if asked is that 1 of the cards is in the granny flat that you or your wifes parents lives in, this does not work with mulitroom systems, never phone them email them from a UK e mail address (Eg Hotmail) however I belive you can only phone them from inside the UK now.
I have been doing this for the past 8 years and never had a problem, plus this year alone I have upgraded to sky plus and now SKY HD and guess what all woking well.( AGAIN MAKE ALL YOUR CONTACT TO SKY VIA EMAIL THROUGH THERE WWW.SKY.COM WEBSITE.
There call senter is based in Scotland and is 90% attended buy Asians and ther english is terrible, so you can get away with alot (No disrespect)

If i have a dish fitted in portugal, buy a uk sky box and take my sky card with me, it will work will it?

you are mistaken

multi room is where you have more than 1 box on one subscription and yes this is policed by sky and you do need to connect all boxes on that account to the same phone line other wise sky will start charging you muliple subscriptions at full rate

there is nothing wrong with having more than one full paid subscription in different names at one address sky accept this all the time i have many customers in shared buildings especially students and medical staff that have sky subscriptions most of these people pay the one off supplement for no phone line currently £25

and you can swap white cards over if done correctly but we have discussed this before and i am not going over it again [ we do it with customer cards in the workshop all the time ]

there is no reason why your sky box will not work in portugal all you need to do is make sure your mail is forwarded to you at another address i have supplied many 000 boxes and subscriptions to spain pt italy france ect.

a couple of items to note

take care when you pay someone else [exept if you know and trust the person] for your subscriptions up front these people can not pay this full amount to sky they can only pay sky monthly so they will have your money for 12 months and if they stop paying for it your card will go dead

sky hd and skyplus can now ordered without phone lines [£25 premium payable ] and you can get upgrades for you standard box to hd free or very cheap by extending your subscription depends on which package you are on

the skyplus non hd and the standard box is being phased out the only product you will be able to buy is a hd box and a low cost box [similar to a standard single cable box]for mutliroom

Do I simply disconnect all and take it to PT? My mail will be forwarded to me by the Post Office for two years (that's their maximum) - after that I can use another address for correspondence from Sky.

Why do I need to pay somebody else to pay my Sky subscription?

How do I justify to Sky that I need to change to a non phone line account given that I have been with them since they started with a phone line connected?

Apologies for sounding a bit 'dim' - but I don't want to screw up and lose the facility

I purchased my current sky+ box from you a few years ago when I was on a visit to the UK and it has been a great success. The box is currently registered at a UK address and subscriptions are paid from my UK bank account. I am concerned to hear you say that the box is being phased out. Do you know what time frame is involved? How would I get an HD box? Can you organise this still? Please pm me if necessary.

Ive had sky for nearly 10 years and never paid any fee for not being connected to the phone line, is this a new thing?
Ive brought all my sky, sky plus & now sky hd Box from ebay, Hd box came from a dealer with 9 months warrenty for 89.95GBP, I then emailed sky gave them my new HD box details to them and sky card number, then within 2 hours the card was married to the box and the rest is history, all working and recording perfectly.

when i said being phased out its the product that is being phased out all existing boxes will still work no problem but if you want a upgrade to hd i can arrange one for you and post it to you

Sky do not give two hoots where you are in the world they are just interested in making money,i phoned Sky recently with a problematic Sky + box and told them i was in in the Algarve and they didnt say a word,except to tell me i needed a new box and told me to buy it out here and register it with them which i have done and all now tickety boo.Dont believe the scaremongers..........

But you are right they SKY aren,t bothered providing you dont tell them.

As an aside when last in PT i had a n email fron the Lottery to tell me I had one £10. .
When I connected to renew my subscription I had a response from them informing me that as I was i not in the UK ( how do they know ) I would have to wait until I returned.
