Although I have lived in Carvoeiro for a couple of years now, I have only recently plugged into the forum.
It appears to me that a lot of the members are eccentrics, nutcases,or air-brained -- so I feel quite at home !!!
Before my semi-retirement I was a commercial pilot/ flying instructor and still have the same love of flying that I had when I started 35 years ago.
Now that I am on a more or less fixed income and cannot afford to fly as much as in my earning days, I wondered if there are similar eccentrics etc. out there who would like to defy gravity with me on a cost-sharing basis to have views of the Algarve and/or trips to Lisbon, Porto or Spain at much less cost than doing it commercially.

Yes. There is a Jabiru available at Portimao but as I am 95 K , I can only take lightweights as passengers.
C152 or C172 Rocket (241 H.P.) more practical.
Interestingly prices here are similar to U.S. prices i.e same in euros here as in pounds in UK and usually no landing fees
Beer 0.80 and 3 course lunch 6 euros with wine at the airfield.
Worth a trip over ?

and why have you taken so long to get here?

sounds exciting what youre offering..but can you it in more laymans terms for those of us who dont understand 'flying lingo'?

At this point, Roy, if a trip to the Moon cost one Euro.....
All I could do is run around the Launch Pad yelling:
"Ain't That Cheap!".

My husband is in the RAF and loves anything to do with planes.
We're moving out to cvo later this year (when he leaves).
Maybe he'd be interested in doing somthing?

Questions, Questions !!

Ellie -- jokingly establishing my qualifications for joining the forum, plus pilots are a strange bunch - what normal person defies gravity on a single engine for fun ??!! - I also scuba dive to double my ecentricity !!
Seriously -- light aircraft are available for hire at Portimao (Alvor) aerodrome -- 2 and 4 seat -- and by law I cannot charge for my time, but the costs can be shared i.e. 1/4 cost per person in the 4 seater. On this basis a tour of the Algarve covering Lagos,Silves,Albufeira and back to Portimao would average 30 euros each.
Cowboy -- one day perhaps --for me the beer comes after flying is finished for the day.
Debs G -- yes I would love to meet up with your hubby when he arrives --we go back to UK July/August but live here the rest of the year.
Hope this helps and look forward to seeing some intrepid aviators during the course of the year.

Well I must say Roy..that depsite your 'eccentricities'..you sound well pretty well organised and dare I say it.'Down to earth!'
Unlike 'The Red Baron' ..who used to regularly 'buzz' our top floor apartment in Lagoa.....usually when I was hanging washing out on the roof terrace

But Im sure you wouldnt dream of doing that.....would you?

Roy, what about an Ultra Kite instead of an Ultra Lite??? You can drink
and fly it at the same time!

Like I said, Roy, after the flight is when we really need a drink (after landing a light aircraft in a strong, gusty cross wind seems to be a good time).

Hi Roy,

Your suggestion of sharing costs sounds a great idea - may well get in touch when we out for long enough to do a trip like that - our main holiday there will be in August when you're not there but we'll be back again in October and I'll tell friends coming out to our villa about your offer. Maybe we could get an updated aerial photo of our villa ?! At the risk of annoying the neighbours by buzzing them !

Hi cowboy. Thanks for the links, even though I am not that old I will look into them. My first plane was a Piper Cub JC3-65 ex USAF Korean war - that's as far back as I go.
