Looking back on the 2 Ele and Ela topics in the Restaurants topic, it seems to be the same 5 or 6 people who posted many times in the topic rather than lots of people recommending it. However, each to their own - restaurants will have people who love and those who don't - give it a try if you are interested - take quite a few euros with you though

But I always feel as though I have eaten some great food, been treated like a queen/king (well - you get all sorts on here ...) and I love all the "extras" like the aperitif and sorbets etc. And the bill is never as large as I think it is going to be - whereas at most of the other restaurants the bill is always more!

What and when is this Maxime's party? Is it an actual party where you have to be invited or if you've booked a table for dinner you're included? Advice appreciated as we're out in September and we've enjoyed eating in Maximes and do want to go again.

Maximes celebrated their 10th Birthday two years ago and as a present, one of their biggest fans and long standing customer is a guy called Gerrit (I can't spell his surname) - a larger than life character who is the life and soul of every party. We all call him Gerry - a name that has stuck. He has recorded two CD's of popular 60s songs - sung in his own inimitable way.

For the celebration of the 10th birthday, Gerry brought an entertainer from Holland called Belinda - a lady with a fantastic singing voice and for 3 nights she entertained all us Maximes regulars - this was entertainment of the highest calibre. They are going to do it all again in late September this year.

Oh no. We might miss it then. We come home on 21st September. Bummer! Sounds like it would've been a fantastic night as well. And both of us celebrate our birthdays in September as well!!!

Hi,Admitedly we have not been back to this place for a while, however we did not rate this establishment very well, its food warm and small portions and price too high.Service with no smile or pleasantness. Not one of our favourites, despite lots on this site liking it. So for us its been good to hear that we were not the only ones who did not find it to our taste.

Knowing that Kimmy of ele&ella/taste reads this section......I'd be interested to read her reaction to the above comments.

I dont necessarily support the comments made, but comments like these spread quickly unless challenged and answered, and can damage even a business as successful and good as this one.

A business/restaurant is only as good as its last meal, if people don't like it then they have a right to say so, politely, just as people are able to give a good review if they so feel. It is called freedom of speech.

I have always found the food and service here well above average. However, in the summer, the insistance upon dining at either 7.30pm or 9.15pm does not fit with our babysitter so sadly we go elsewhere.

Looks like I'm the only person who likes this place , it is above average for Carvoeiro and that is all, good service and food always nicely prepared, of course it is reflected in the price, but its not overly expensive, can't say have eperienced any of the complaints mentioned (and I've been quite a few times) so, will continue to visit.

Sam - I am with you - I still regard it as one of the best in Carvoeiro BUT there timings don't suit us in the summer - real shame (we have to suffer and visit Taste instead ) but will return when we can book a table at a time to suit us.

I've only been twice and was not overly impressed. The first time was before the road improvements and I'm sure passing motorists could have reached out and taken food from our plates. The food's ok but I prefer not to eat in the road.
