Almond Tree

Planted Almond tree in my front garden almost 3 years ago(as a reminder of Algarve) and Ive been rewarded each year with its lovely palest pink blossom.
However,as I sat staring out of the window couple days ago..feeling horrible with onset of 'flu.. I noticed round things..amongst the leaves.So went out for closer inspection..and was delighted to see loads of nuts developing

This is a total surprise!One..Ive never grown an Almond tree before..and 2..always thought it too chilly on this eastern side for fruit to form.
I am thrilled to bits..but can anyone of you..who have Almonds in UK..tell me..d'you think the fruits will develope properly..will I d'you think..eventually get nuts?
In its own warm sheltered 'microclimate'..perhaps like me..its imagining itself in sunny Algarve

If you've got some grapes withering on the vine too, then all you need is cocoa plant and hey presto......Cadbury's fruit and nut case.

What a sweet thought..and another of my favourite bars

what I wanna know is..if theres sudden cold snap...will the nuts drop off ?

Oh Ellie thats sound very painful!!

I know we are in a warmer area in Somerset but a friend of mine has an almond tree that produces nuts every year.

So hope yours does as well

Hi Ellie, hope you’re getting over the ‘flu!
We had an almond tree at our last house in Hertfordshire, a bit further south and to the west of you I know, but it regularly produced fruit – not the size or quality one would expect in the Algarve, but just about edible! As I recall, the thing to look out for is, perversely, peach-leaf curl which I don’t think affected the fruit but didn’t do much for the look of the tree!
Good luck and even if it doesn’t produce any nuts, the blossom alone makes it more than worthwhile.

Hiya Lesley & Guest Too,
A little better today but still up to my ears in heavy cold and also the slight depression that usually comes with 'flu

But it cheers me to be available to come on here and see how the rest of you are doing

My almond does have peach leaf curl(for 2nd year running)..you have to remove all affected leaves and burn. I forgot to spray with Bordeaux mix early in the year

But the nuts seem fine and I do hope to get at least a handful later on..by way ..whats a good way to crack them without damaging nut too much

Well it maybe for you guest..but Ill need lot more than that to make a tart..even a little one

Its one of my weaknesses ..all that crunchy-sticky-toffee-like scrumptious ness......
and how DO you get them out in one piece..mind you..does it matter? ..if all Im going to do is..crush them
