Have you got a car? Most of the better places are out of town.

I use the little supermarket next to O Cantinho for day today stuff. Otherwise visit one of the out of town supermarkets - Intermarche stock most things, Continente and the one in Lagoa with the funny name (yes, I know that is really helpful!) in the estate near the waterpark is also quite good. For ease, I would suggest Intermarche which you will drive past just before you come into Carvoeiro.

Definetly not Intermarche unles you want overpriced imported foodstuffs, It is also a bit of a dump and can get really crowded.
You will pay up to 50% more for UK brands look for the local equivalents.
If you have a car drive 10 min or so towards Portimao and the Continente hypermarket. or Pau a sucar ( bread and sugar ) in Lagoa ( close to slide and splash).
.
If you want a reasonable choice and value there is always Pinge Doce also in lagoa

If they are only there for a few days, saving 10 euros is not that relevant!!!

Hi - thanks all.

I get the feeling that the Intermarche is to be avoided...we'll give pinge doce a try and yes we do have a car so should be too hard to find...

We'll be arriving on a saturday around 6pm what time are the supermarkets open to...and are they opened on Sundays??

Cheers..

 INtermarche is fine and the most convenient. Not sure quite where EMM shops in the UK, but it is not dissimilar to my local Sainsburys!!!

But basically - go where you like. Pingo Doce has not got much choice - I tend not to go there. Intermarche is convenient and I can visit whilst I am doing other errands so don't have to go out of my way!

Some of the supermarkets are open peak season (now) on a sunday morning. You will find everything you want at the Intermarche.... I know what others are saying ....yes it gets busy ....yes its slightly pricey. But hey you're on holiday and you can get it all in one go. We use it a lot as their bread is better than the others but i'm not sure whether they bake on the weekend....still best for me locally. Get your essentials here, then Continente at Portimau for the BIG shop. Enjoy !!

Thanks fmm...

Convieience really wins over price to be honest...we'll prob stop off to pick up a few essentials and to be frank with a 7 month in tow after the journey a few extra euros is neither here nor there...

But its good to get local expert opinions as this will be our very first visit to CV...cant wait especially given current autumnial weather here in UK! :D

Really close then... If there's anything you need to know and don't want to put it on Forum. PM us and we'll try to help. However there's a wealth of knowledge on here and you can really get the best out of CVO by using everyone. There's always going to be parochialiism around bits and pieces but generally it's all well intentioned.

if you are driving to CVO why odnt you shop on the way in - go to "pao de azucar" by splash and slide as you come off the A22 feeder rd into CVO - turn sharp rt at the island. Its good and has similar choice to Intermarche and almost as cheap as Pingo

all of the supermarkets are open until 9 pm - sundays as well, in summer and fressh bread is always there

I'd agree. It's my favourite, bright and airy, good choice and never gets too busy. The little cafe is good as well.
